Asiana 747 Business Class Seats

Sun Sep 16, 2007 1:28 am

I have read that Asiana now has the new cocoon type Business Class seats on the 777's. But do any of the 747's have new Business Class seats? Also, do the Business Class seats on the 747's have the power ports for laptops?

What is the plan for the Asiana 747's?

Cheers,

Asiana is a great airline and has many awards for their in-flight service and cabin crew...

Unfortunately the 747's let them down, they are in need of a good refurbishment throughout as the product in all classes on this aircraft is below par compared to the rest of the fleet!

They don't even boast lie flat beds!

And I think only a few 777s have new business class seats, and the old ones are in the others. I believe SYD gets the old version.

Currently 6 out of 9 777s have new business class seat, along with 6 330s. Asiana is working on upgrading existing fleets - 3 remaining 777s, 2 747Pax and 2~3 747Combi, and probably 767 also. However, Asiana is continuously suffering from lack of aircraft, and upgrading work has been deferred. Well, one of 747Pax will out of the schedule for almost a month in October, I hope they do some upgrading.

OZ need to refurbish their 747 fleet quick-smart - the service on board is always immaculate, the seats are very bad indeed. Business class barely even reclines, never mind foot rests. There are PTV's but they show one channel only, and forget about in-seat power. First class is nicer, but not flat bed IIRC. They are competing against carriers with much much better products, they need to catch up.

Their service is good, but their seats are far below average for star alliance. 50'' pitch is below industry standard. They put 32 business class seats on the upper deck of a 747. Their American counterpart United only has 26.

I flew Asiana in business class a few years ago with two 747 legs and two 767 legs and will not fly them again in business class unless they are substantially cheaper.

I will say that the crews were very good though. I'm not one for some of the Korean food they were serving, but overall they were nice with the huge exception that they were below my expectations for comfort. I unlike many a.netters rank comfort over quality of service onboard.

Now I haven't experience their new seats yet and don't know what the pitch is like, so I hope things will improve.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

So not all the 777's are done either? I thought I read a post, could have been on another site that said the SEL-SYD flights on the 777 is the old configuration.

50 inches is not much at all for pitch. Hopefully the 777 I make it on will have the new seats.

Thank you to all of you for your input.

With Kind Regards,

Have not flown them because of their old seats in Business, but everyone I know who has says they are a great carrier and when they have the seats upgraded they will be a real competitor... I just hope they keep their fares down. To be fair, they cost a LOT less than the carriers with new seats so they do offer value.
