Bmi/BMed Fleet Repainting?

Sun Sep 23, 2007 3:35 am

It seems like G-MEDH is the first ex-BMed aircraft to be painted into bmi livery. Although still an hybrid at the mo!

Anyone have any pics?

I wonder how long bmi will take to fully repaint all the ex-BMed aircraft? As they still have aircraft flying around with the basic British Midland and old Star Alliance livery!!

My feeling is that the BD/BA interim scheme will be around for years.

Since the new 'bmi' was launched in 2001 they have only ever repainted ONE mainline aircraft. This was B737-500 G-BVZH which was extremely short-lived as it then became the first aircraft to be transferred to bmibaby.

Apart from 'ZH, all the mainline aircraft in the current bmi scheme were delivered in those colours.

They are all being painted over the next 6 weeks up to the changover at the end of October. It is a livery that both BA and BMI agreed as BA wouldn't want BA aircraft flying BMI routes after 28th October and they also wouldn;t want BMI colour aircraft on BA routes before then. Hence the hybrid.

Think I might have seen the aircraft today coming in to land while I was driving along the A4 but didn;t get a good enough look at it.

Great, so doesn't look like we'll be seeing an A321 in full bmi livery anytime soon then!!

The first aircraft has been re painted already. The underbelly is the dark blue which has been retained from the BA livery, the top half and tail now has BMI on it. Tried to get a picture today of it but didn't get a chance, will try again tomorrow.

I appreciate repainting aircrafts is costly and means it out of revenue service for a few days during the repaint, but when you consider many of these new ex-BMED routes will be amoung their flagship services. You would have thought they would want to portray a good corporate image and get them kitted out in full BMI colours!

Also a few aircraft in up to date Star Alliance colours, really portrays BMI's connections to the alliance.

Reasons why not as I posted above.

Looks about as much of a dog's breakfast as the rest of the bmi fleet.

While I can see BA not wanting the aircraft in full BA colours it still seems a bit odd as to the normal passenger they will be sat at the gate and see the aircraft go past and think of bmi not BA.
