Air India 77W's And 744's, Status?

Mon Sep 24, 2007 2:26 am

Hey Everyone-

I have a couple of questions regarding AI and their ongoing "projects"...

1) I was wondering if anyone had any new information as to when AI will be receiving the first of their 777-300ERs? I know they have 10 on order with options for 5 more IIRC, unless I'm mistaken. Several of the articles I have read have quoted AI management saying the 77W's will be replacing the 742 fleet, but does anybody know what routes the frames will initially be deployed on?

and 2) 744 cabin refurbishment, status update anyone?

Thanks!

Nick

There are no options, it is for 15 firm.

I believe they should start taking delivery this month, there are two sitting outside the factory in full colors. They won't be replacing the 742 fleet as that fleet has been retired for some time now. They should be taking over the 744s that were leased.

They will soon only have 6 747-400s (the 6 that they own and will refurbish). These 6 will most likely be used to LHR. The 777-300ERs will takeover other 747 routes.

So far, the 1st 747-400 has already been refurbished.

There are currently three 77Ws for AI assembled at PAE.

One is fully painted in the new combined livery, but for some reason went back into the 777 paint hangar in the middle of last week and remained there as of Friday night.

One of the primer 77Ws was loaded into the 767 paint hangar (how she fit is beyond me) Friday morning.

The other primer 77W remains on the flight line next to her fully painted 77L sister.

Here's a Question!! I noticed that the picture of the ex-MAS 747 is painted in the new colors for AI, yet the windows do not have the "palace windows" Yet a recent picture of there new A330 does have the Palace windows. It is because the aircraft is leased that it is not painted with the palace windows, or will that be something that will be added later?
