Embraer Announce X2 New Biz Jets @ Nbaa

Mon Sep 24, 2007 11:54 pm

Embraer have announced the evaluation for two new Biz Jets between the Phenom 300 and the Legacy 600.

See the article here at FlightGlobal.

If this goes ahead, it looks like Embraer will become a key player in the Biz Jet market

I like how Embraer builds new planes in sets of two: ERJ145+135, E170+E190, Phenom 100+300. (I know there's more derivatives in between)

It takes some gusto, I like their style.

This step now announced was what I expected for a while to come and makes complete sense. Embraer will so be able to present the complete range from the Phenom 100 up to the Lineage 1000. No other manufacturer can really do this the way Embraer will be able for:

Dassault only has large airframes
Cessna doens't go larger than the Citation X, a widebody will eventually come, but never as big as the Lineage 1000
Gulfstream serves the upper segement, has no real small one but no "BBJ Style" either
Bombardier is in a similar position as Gulfstream
Raython has a limited choice of jets and some turboprops

Anyone I forgot? I guess Embraer is on a solid track to offer an grogeous range of Business Jets very soon.

Cheers

I'm rather partial to EMBRAER myself, I just wish I could afford one. It will be interesting to see how well their Biz Jets do a few years from now. I do hope to see a lot more of them.

Dassault - Correct
Cessna/Citation - Correct
Gulfstream - Similar to Dassault, they have a nice niche in the widebody- LR to ULR market
Bombardier - They have quite a diverse line from the CL-605 to the CL-850, as well as the ULR GLEX products, they really only need to small to mid-size
Raytheon - You're dead on...

As for Embraer they are still missing a true wide-body long haul aircraft. The Legacy isn't bad but it needs more range and a better cabin to compete with Gulftreams, Globals, etc. They need to develop a plane from scratch rather than use a derivative of the ERJ line... They'll get there though

Well I admit at over 4,000NM it has more range than I thought, but it's stll a good 1500-2000NM sort of a G550  Smile

Somehow I comletely overlooked Learjet... From the Lear 40 to the Global, I'd say Bombardier has a plane to fit most desires.

I think Embraer needs to work on some branding strategy and build a reputation in business jets. Their strategy seems to be "be a player in all business jet markets" in a very short period of time. Thats great, but business jet customers are a little different than airlines and I can not imagine how they will be able to do it in the short-term.

I mean.. Gulfstream, Challenger, Learjet, Falcon... The Names Speaks for themselves..

Legacy, Phenom... No, not yet.

I am sure all the players in the market are real worried though, its only a matter of time.

I see quite a few, matter of fact a whole bunch, come through the Embraer mx hangars here at BNA. I wouldn't say they are a "No, not yet" type of company just yet for biz jets. From all outward apperances, they are on track to make a statement in the biz jet market.

Some of the Legacies I have seen make some of the G550's look like hang gliders. But, of course, that's totally dependant on the client who purchases them. I have also seen the opposite.

That flight deck looks great. THe yoke looks to be improved as far as the aileron point of rotation goes. Can't wait to see these planes.
