AA 767-300 FC/BC DFW To HNL?

Tue Sep 25, 2007 2:12 am

Has anyone flown on AA, DFW-HNL, FC/BC recently? Are the NGBC seats installed on the 767-300's on that route? How was the experience/ service? Flew the route on AA in 06' and thought the service up front was acceptable. Getting ready to book the trip again for a special occasion and appreciate any recent information to help make the decision. Thanks in advance for your expertise and response.

Hey Mauiman,

Welcome to a.net!

I haven't flown up front on AA to Hawaii, as I always travel in the back with my family's whole entourage. Anyway I can tell you that AA doesn't have certain 763s just for Hawaii (in contrast to how a few airlines had airplanes in Hawaii configuration in the past) and almost all the 763s are completed with the change to the new business class configuration. It looks like 53 are completed and 5 remain to be done, so your changes are better than 90% that you'll have the new configuration, and the further your trip is from now, the more likely that those last 5 will be finished by then.

Aloha!
Matt

Hey,

I just flew the new biz seats from DFW-HNL. You will likely have the new seats. Are you prepared for the big dissapointment?

They will not provide the Entertainment System for domestic flights. Don't ask me why, but they don't.

You expect that a long flight like that they would offer a menu, amenety kit and IFE.

Hope this helps.

thanks,
Tony

What is the point of not turning on the IFE? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

My suggestion is to book on CO. AA's HNL service is no different than flying DFW LGA in F. While I have had my share of nice F/As that route seems to attract some of the dinosaurs as well. I've flown the route up front about 6 times in the last couple of years...always a disappointment.

The food is the exact same as domestic - in fact I think that trans-con has a higher grade of food than HNL does.

CO does an exceptional job on their Hawaii services. Seats are incredibly comfy, food is great and the crews always outstanding.

Just one guy's opinion.

They use the overhead projector IFE, not the individual DVD players is what I think the poster means.

I was on a paid F ticket DFW-HNL and was very disappointed, not the same level of service you would expect from AA in J.

Thanks so much for the head's up about the IFE. We would have been very surprised. Yes, I am amazed and disappointed. It is around 8.5 hours DFW to HNL. Time cannot be the rationale. Why hype the new IFE as an major part of their NGBC and then not use it on "domestic" routes? Maybe they will reconsider this choice. I am assuming the FA's are getting some heat from unhappy customers about this.

Allow me to suggest Continental.
They treat HNL as an international destination, so service up front is supposedly far superior on this route than on other carriers.
AA treat HNL as a domestic first destination, so there are no niceties to be expected.

Yes Flight Attendants have to pay for AA's inferior product. People need an outlet to vent their frustration/dissapointment at and they are prime targets.

AA figures most passengers on Hawaii flights are FF/low-yield/leisure passengers and don't do much to the service there.

I dont understand AA with its IFE on the 767s. Thye always have them stored basically up front (not sure if they are actually taken off as the aircraft may be going back to an international destination).
These 763s are used on mostly flight at least over 3 hours on domestic so why not have them out for use??
I do beleive that this does sound bad for AA. 8.5 hours is a long time and not to have any better service sounds terrible!! (some of the trans-atlantics are not that long!!!)
I have to say i have only been on these 763s trans-atlantic and the service up front i think is excellent.

I think AA need to re-think the use of these heavies on all their routes. These heavies are big sellers for some people and to make them better they need to make the service better!!

Out of interest then on this DFW-HNL would you just get one meal then on the flight like normal domestic first or due to the length would they also have a snack?

There is good news on the food front for J class. AA is about to introduce, perhaps Oct. 1, new entres for j-class that feature island flare. They are finally sprucing up the meal service for these flights in J-class... coach will keep BOB.

I had the unhappy experience of being transferred from a DL 767-400ER (seat 7F and 7G) to an AA 767-300ER from LAX-HNL. At least the 767 was upgraded from a 757. The 767 seats were old and manual. The width was basically the same as economy class seats. The pitch was good, food was acceptable, flight attendants awesome, IFE/I mean projector screen with a bad movie terrible. I did not feel like I had gotten what I paid for on DL, but due to the weather and packed flights to HNL, they put us on AA. Overall, I was minimally pleased with AA's first/business class service to HNL. Hopefully, you can fly CO/DL/UAL. If not, hopefully you will get new business seats on AA. There is my 2 cents (I mean $4,000 worth). Have fun and good luck.

I used the new J class product AA offered on AA #123 last month. It was pretty good stuff.

on the 767-300's on that route?

As stated by DFW13L no one a/c is on a route permanently. My uncle flew to OGG five times this month and his a/c was the new J class config everytime. You might have a better shot at the upgraded class if you chose OGG over HNL.

Enjoy the flight!

AA and DL have virtually the same J seat width on their 767s, and unless you were on the new configuration 767-400s,
American's 767 has more pitch.

In First, I believe that it is still westbound a full lunch service followed by a snack service approximately 1.5 - 2 hours before landing and on the eastbound overnight service full dinner with a continental breakfast about an hour before arrival. Although, on two occasions, they didn't service the breakfast - maybe a change or maybe everyone was sleeping so well. Then they only offered juices/coffee less than 30 minutes before landing in DFW

Cheers thanks for the info.
What i also find is very cheeky and appaling how for that flight in Y you have to buy on board for food!! Its a long flight and you would think that AA could give those Hawaian flights a bit of service!!

Seats 7F and 7G have more pitch and more recline than any other First Class seats on the 767-400. I made sure those were my chosen seats for that reason. Plus they have PTVs in First on DL's 764's. In my opinion, the domestic configuration on a 764 (7F & 7G) is still better than the domestic product on AA. Even though my flight was in Business Class on AA, it was still disappointing.

Yes. My FA said to me. "The execs need their bonuses". Portable IFE adds extra weight.

You probably didn't fly the new J international to take full advantage of the product. If so, you would be disappointed.
