Largest A/C Into Newport News, Va?

Tue Sep 25, 2007 3:00 am

Is the 737 the biggest plane that goes to newport news, va. Does anyone fly a A320 or 757 to that airport? I know Usairways, Delta, and Airtran all go there and both Usairways and delta have 757s. Is that airport able to handle a 757? I am interested to find out because i flew to the airport for the first time last month and only saw CRJs all the way up 2 a 737 with about 15 flights a day from all three airlines put together. Very nice airport by the way. Nice and small plus very fast check in time beats Norfolk and Richmond, Va.

Well, the largest aircraft I see going into there are just the 737's, MD-88 and 717's. The airport can hold a larger aircraft. Probably don't get much because of the proximity to RIC or ORF.

Yeah it doesn't make any sense when RIC is only an hour away and ORF is just a stone's throw across the water.
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

I really don't know how it is doing I was just there 1 time and I am fly back on october 25th on delta. Not a direct flight but not to expensive 178 round trip from mco to atl to phf I am gonna do a 767 300 er and then a md 88. The first I did usairways that was a 757 to a crj 200 on the way back it was a dash 8 and then again a 757. But what I saw airtran always has a plane at the gate when 1 leaves another 1 is arriving so I guess they are doing good

Any chance for any other airlines to arrive at phf and share jetways or phf will not get american eagle or united r there plans on making phf alittle bigger and maybe add more gates with a new terminal? Or add more parking spots like usairways has for there regional jets? Just a thought cause a lot of people do use that airport.

A few weeks back I emailed the airport PR person to ask if there were plans to expand the baggage claim area (which desperately needs expanding IMHO) and she told me they were planning to first build a second concourse before expanding the baggage claim.

Currently the biggest commercial airplane at PHF is Delta's MD88, followed by AirTran's 737-700 and 717. US Airways does not fly mainline metal into PHF, only RJ and Dash-8, and most of Delta's service is on the CRJ.

United Air Lines, back in the day when airlines did their own flights used to use 727s and 737s into Patrick Henry nonstop from Chicago, OHare......Allegheny/USair used to use DC9s and BAC One Elevens into PHF too....I think they flew those to PIT and PHL.
I am quite sure that most commercial airliners (full size) can oeprate into and out of PHF.....
