JetBlue Offers More Flights From Boston To Florida

Quote:
BOSTON, Sep 26, 2007 (PrimeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU), the largest low-fare, low-cost airline at Logan International Airport, is making it even easier for Hub residents to jet off to the Sunshine State as it adds extra flights between Boston and Florida just in time for snowbird season.

JetBlue has added five new nonstops flights -- one each to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach -- and now offers up to 28 daily flights between Logan and Florida, more than any other airline. In addition to the new flights from its Boston focus city, JetBlue is also adding nonstop service to Orlando this winter from Burlington, Vt., and Portland, Maine, making JetBlue the leading carrier between New England and Florida.

Glad to see JetBlue beefing up their current operations as well as adding new service!

Yes and not from JFK. Cool.

Maybe they'll start SRQ?

It's good to see B6 continue to expand its Boston operation, even if it is more frequencies to Florida.

I would definitely expect BOS-SRQ and BOS-JAX to be launched sometime in the near future, perhaps 1x daily with the E190. The JFK-SRQ and JFK-JAX flights have been outstanding performers so far, so it only makes sense.

SRQ could work on an E190. FL tried it on the 737. That was pretty short lived, but I think more because the 737 was just too much aircraft for the route.

Haven't heard of this PWM - MCO before. This would be going against FL!

Just ask AirTran what a great market BOS-SRQ is. Not saying it won't necessarily work for jetBlue (it probably won't work year-round, though), but it isn't something they need to rush into.

only wish they'd add more florida flights from IAD, but seeing how the PBI service did, not expecting much beyond FLL and MCO

B6 has been a solid addition to BOS and I would bet, even though it may be obvious, that B6 is one of the amin reasons the pax numbers have returned to pre 9/11. It would be nice to see B6 start a BOS-MSY route, AA left the route and never returned.

Can't agree more this route has 266 daily passengers according to faremeasure so i could see it in the near future.
Also I know that AirTran pulled the route but what else is new? they have pulled MDW ROC PHL and other routes from BOS so that isn't a fare measurement of the BOS-SRQ market.

AirTran has never flown BOS-MSY nonstop.

One huge reason FL BOS-SRQ didn't work was because of Jetblue, they started TPA and RSW flights at the same time and had fares at $88 round trip. You can't compete with that at $199RT BOS-SRQ.

I would also wonder if the SkyBus flights PSM-PGD would have an effect on JetBlue starting BOS-SRQ service.

I think Pease is so far outside of the radar of most people who live in the greater Boston area, that it shouldn't be a problem for B6 flying the route out of BOS.

No.

I do not know anyone in SRQ area that would think of PGD when flying without lots of prodding, and SRQ is too spread out for billboard ads. It would take a blast of cable ads with very high retention rate and penetration. And since SkyBus isn't well known yet and doesn't list or sell on the main websites like Travelocity or Expedia or book over the phone, they would have to really convince people to come to their website.

B6 is already well known around SRQ even if they mostly fly to TPA. So if B6 were to start SRQ-BOS in the next year, they would still have a leg up on other competition, even if that competition came first.

Just my opinion, but I do spend a lot of time there.

1 or 2 advertisments along I-75 is all you really need. I'm flying Skybus to PGD in Dec and Feb, so SRQ leaked 7 seats to PGD

Portsmouth is not that far out of the area. It is roughly the same distance that MHT is from BOS. I have actually heard a few SkyBus ads on the radio and they are pretty laughable, almost as funny as the lame WN adds on tv that try and make people think that legacies send small rjs on 4 and a half hour flights. In any event, B6 could possibly make a daily 190 flight BOS-SRQ work, at least in the winter period.

Portsmouth is not that far but when people think about flying somewhere they don't think about driving all the way to Portsmouth. It's just not very well known or advertised, like MHT is, and it's a lot further than MHT for people living South and West of Boston. If WN at MHT has yet to create a barrier for B6's growth at BOS, it's certainly not SkyBus from Pease that's going to be a problem.

Are you living in BOS?

It's silly for someone from Columbus to stick their toe into this discussion because the brand awareness in Columbus is huge.

But ask someone who lives in Cambridge or Somerville and wants to visit family in Bradenton about PSM-PDG, the route we are talking about, and see if they look at you with vacant eyes. Then ask them if they want B6 to fly the SRQ, and see what they say.

That's my only point here. Not that the Skybus route can't attract customers, but that if customers would respond to the B6 service right away.

B6 has HUGE brand awareness in the Boston area. They have a well seen billboard on the Pike in Boston and advertise in both the Globe and Herald newspapers. With that being sad, Skybus has only started to advertise, I have heard a couple of radio ads and had a good laugh at them. They advertise these $10 seats, but then mention they are on a limited basis. How does Skybus make money selling $10 seats? You ask most people in the Metro Boston area if they would rather fly on B6 or Sky Bus, and 9 out of 10 will say Sky Bus?

CMH, are you talking about I-75 in Columbus?

last time I checked the closest I-75 got to CMH was in Dayton. I-75 is the main artery for SW Florida. Almost 100,000 cars a day pass between Bee Ridge and Fruitville roads daily (average). If Skybus were to somehow place adds in a few key locations on I-75 in the SRQ area and the RSW area they would get the brand out there. Would that work on I-95 in the Boston area?

Quoting Ikramerica (Reply 18):

No CMH, but my sister lives in the Boston area, and because we share the same parents she has a reason to travel to PGD as well.
