I would also like to know more. Mike was synonymous with Concorde.

The Steve Fossett situation is very strange. The last I heard was that extensive searches (using many aircraft) of the possible areas where his light aircraft could have disappeared have revealed no trace of him or his plane. Ironically they did find other crash sights from the past which had never been discovered. It has been suggested that he may never be found now because the area is so extensive and the terrain virtually uninhabited. It doesn't look good.

This past weekend, they were supposed to have ground-teams explore some other locations that were identified by USAF satellite imagery.

I havent heard if they found anything; US National News has been quiet.

Bannister is 58, I imagine they offered him early retirement, as I can't imagine he would feel for riding any ordinary 777.
If something major would happen to him, wikipedia should report it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Bannister
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I had understood that he went on to A320s after the SSC was retired. BA captains (I believe) still retire at 55, so I'm assuming he has retired from line flying by now and may have an executive position in Flight Ops?

I am fortunate to have former Concorde Chief Pilot Mike Bannister as a friend.

Mike is very well. He retired at age 55. He is no longer flying, at least not commercially.

He spends his time taking care of his family, golfing, travelling with his wife and daughter, lecturing about Concorde and contributing his time to charity events. He is busy as ever!

He has certainly not lost interest for aviation. He likes the A380 very much. In fact he would love to fly the Big Plane!

He went on to be the General Manager of the Shorthaul fleet, one of the highest positions in BA. He retired because of the (then) BA retirement age of 55. Apparently Bannister still does some GA, gliding and microlight flying.

Yes they used to a couple of years back, now the retirement age is 60 with BA but there is plans for it to be increased to 65 in a few years time.
LAST FLIGHTS= Ryanair LPL-BGY-LPL - EI-DPS/DWV - MAY 08 // NEXT FLIGHTS= TBC

This thread implies that Bannister has vanished the same way as Fossett...  Wink

...now the retirement age is 60 with BA...

The compulsory retirement age for BA pilots is 65.
