Kingfisher ATR At Ksby

Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:20 am

Anybody, have an idea why a KingFisher ATR is at KSBY? Its parked at the Piedmont Hanger and it looks as if there is some sorta reception going in the Piedmont hanger? Is Piedmont buying ATR's?

ATR is doing a demo tour in the USA right now. They've just launched the -600 series.

That's not just Piedmont's hangar in SBY, it's also their corporate offices. ATR must be trying hard to win an order from US.

Thanks for the info.

With oil continually creeping up in price, turboprops are making a comeback. Ok, not a huge comeback, but with new props and a few other features, they are quite competitive. However, the Mach 0.47 cruise speed limits the range. With most of the non-England 250nm and less markets being dead... I'm happy to see this happening.

I'm waiting to see a new development turboprop with a little bit higher cruise speed. But with not even a rumor... it will be a while.

It was parked at ATL for about 2 days, isn't King Fisher an India based airline? Also where are ATRs made?

Why, you have stumbled upon the much-anticipated launch of Kingfisher's service from India to the US. The ATR you saw will make a twice weekly flight originating in BOM and will include stops in Karachi, Muscat, Amman, Athens, Milan, London, Reykjavik, Ivittuut (Greenland), Goose Bay, Gander, Concord, Albany, Altoona, and finally SBY.

Vijay Mallya was recently on Indian television talking about how this service will bring back the old glory days of flying long distance with many short hops. The flight will be staffed with the hottest FA's they can find in each country they stop in, to provide some much needed "good times" to the people flying this route.

US is considering both the ATR-42/72 and Dash 8 Q-300/Q400 combo's and the ATR at SBY as previuosly mentioned was on a US Sales Tour. I believe the reason the brand new Kingfisher ATR-72-500 may have been chosen for the tour is Kingfisher tends to fully equip their aircraft, even the smallest ones. I saw an interior photo and it even had an Airbus style drop-down video system, and a nice red Leather interior, pretty snazzy for a Turboprop !

Cheers

Kingfisher is known to have nice interiors on their commercial aircraft. That's one of their selling points.

ATRs are 50% EADS (Airbus) and 50% Alenia Italy, half made in Italy half in France, delivered in Toulouse as for the Airbuses..

I'd like to see the Do-328 prop make a comeback - with those curved props, it just oozed speed  Wink

I was jumpseating on a Do-328 SBNORD back in 2000, and the captain made the comment that this was the first turboprop he had flown where he really had to be careful and keep the power back so as not to bust 250kts below 10000.
