Is Chalk's Ocean Airways Belly-up?

Mon Oct 08, 2007 2:29 pm

What is going on with Chalk's? They have an active AOC, but no aircraft. Their website indicates all flights are operated by wet lease, but when I go to book a flight, it seems as if there are no flights in their reservations system!

Also, I noticed that about 10 days ago their president (who is still the owner) resigned! (according to the FL secretary of state)

Also, I heard somewhere that Chalk's is the oldest airline in the world (1917), but the FAA website says they've only been in business since the 80's... which is correct?

The name "Chalks" has been consistant throughout its history. The company, though, has had many MANY owners. Hence the FAA's website listing is correct.

I am surprised that the airline continued on after the unfortunate accident. The romanticism of flying the old Grumans was brought to a sobering end. It is unfortunate that even with all the care given, that planes (especially in a salt water environment) cannot last forever.

Did it? I thought they had to charter aircraft and they never flew again? I don't even think they're even marketing flights anymore unfortunately  Sad

There has only been one Chalk's. My understanding is while they are not engaged in scheduled air services at this time they are engaged in operating a series of track charter programs. This may include some Cuba trips as well.
