AS 737-800 Etops?

Thu Oct 11, 2007 5:01 am

I was reading AS press release about the new Hawaii service and the special inflight amenities. One thing I noticed it said was that AS will have a spare ETOPS 737-800 standing by for the Anchorage and Seattle departures in case of a problem. I guess that's playing it safe, although I'm surprised they have the aircraft to spare. It was my impression that AS does not have many ETOPS 737-800s. The wikipedia page says Alaska has 26 737-800s right now, but how many are actually etops? And how many spare aircraft (not just 738) does AS have available on an average day this time of year?

Since no one has answered you yet, I will try to give you a boost back to the top of the list...
I BELIEVE that AS plans for 10 total ETOPS birds. That could be entirely wrong. But I think it's right.

Ten is the number I've heard as well. There will indeed be one hot spare, most likely in SEA.
