New Bmi J/Y+ Product

Thu Oct 11, 2007 5:22 pm

Flight has a very interesting feature today on the new bmi J and Premium Economy service; both look very good, particularly the Premium Economy; indeed, so much so, I can't help wondering if Flight has confused some of the pictures provided by BMI; the Premium Economy shows 6 abreast and lie flat seats. Can this really be right?

J seats almost flat, better than the last model Aviointerior did. This one is better.
Looks pretty good. They are certainly onto a winner I think with the ex-J seats in U (Premium Economy).

The six abrest bit is, but there is only a 50 dgree recline (not 180 degrees!).

It appears that the first two pictures labelled "Premium Business Class" are actually Business, and only the bottom picture is Y+, still it looks much bettwer than BA Wrorld Traveller plus.

I dont like the colours much, the browns do create a warm and welcoming feeling but that turquoise is horrible. It's too bright and doesn't complement the other colours well at all. If they wanted blue so much they shouldn't have gone with the brown.
Those colours will look dated very fast but the actual seats look great. This will be a great improvement for BD and it's business passengers.

The first four pictures are of the new business class, I think the last picture is the old business seat which will become the Premium Economy.

I recall reading on here a while ago that bmi's new premium economy seats would simply be the old business class seats, i.e. those repalced with the new seats. The last pic certainly looks like an old business class seat...

Just another airline going with last years "hot colors" not realizing that in 3 years they will look ridiculously dated.

These colors are just awful. It was a hassle trying to find new bed linens here in the USA because EVERYTHING packaged as a set was brown, orange, turquoise, lime green, etc. Even sets from "historic" stores like Restoration Hardware. I finally had to go with offwhite/cream since it's all I could find that wasn't horrible.

It makes you really despise the fashion companies and their crappy costumes they show off in paris and milan, because no matter how ugly and stupid they look, the colors they choose still trickle down all the way through bed linens and aircraft interiors.

Blech!!

Maybe in two years, an airline will decide to dress their F/As in chain link veils and other such nonsense that has come out recently...  Wink

On an ten hour t/a flight, stuff the colours; if you can get six abreast, 50" pitch and ex-J class seats, it really doesn't matter what colour they are. If they go ahead with this, I'd certainly fly with them; it's certainly going to put VS and BA's Premium Economy in the shade!

Premium Economy looks fine, I like those colours it's the new business that I dont like. I'm sure the seats are great, they look comfortable and like a good business seat but the colours could be so much better!

now from a cust. standpoint... why am i going to pay the extra to sit in C?

There isnt that big of a diff in my opinion in between the seats... they are both 2-2-2 and one reclines a wee bit more.

i wonder if catering can justify a couple extra thousand dollars...  Yeah sure

Thing is though, BMI only have a few routes across the pond, with most of them departing Manchester. I read recently that BMI were not going to start flying Heathrow - USA until another few years, and are going to concentrate on their new medium-haul routes.

Will BMI be offering the same product on these routes with the A320/21's? Perhaps not the Premium Economy, but could they put the new Business Class seats in?

Thing is though, BMI dont actually operate many routes across the pond. Only a few flights from Manchester. I read recently that BMI were not looking to add flights from Heathrow - USA for another few years, and are going to concentrate on their new medium-haul routes. In order for this Business product to be effective and to compete with other transatlantic airlines, they need to open up new routes from London to places like New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando etc.

On a slightly seperate note, what are BMI going to install Business-wise on their medium-haul routes? Could they fit the new Business Class seats in their too to standardise the product across the fleet?
