Bangkok Airways In Final A350XWB Talks

Airbus is certainly on a roll again. They might nip Boeing for total orders at this rate, especially if EK chooses the A350 exclusively in Round One.

Apparently the negotiations with Airbus are tough. About two months ago the same Bangkok Post reported that Bangkok AW would sign a firm contract before the end of the month August. That hasn't happened.

Which they will probably do, because most of the changes on the A350 were done for EK.

That leaves Air Europa, Eurofly, GECAS, ILFC, TAP and Yemenia of the original 350 customers not to sign up for the XWB. . Between them they had ordered 51 frames, incidentally all 358s except for 6 359s ordered by ILFC. GECAS look unlikely to convert unless GE sign up as the second engine supplier.

JL met SUH at the Paris Air Show to discuss the 350. Haven't heard any news about ILFC signing up for the XWB, but there may be a surprise in Dubai.

Emirates is probably the next new customer.

It looks very likely that EK will go for the A350, as indicated in another thread on this forum; I guess what goes around comes around. Boeing will probably need to focus for the next few months on solving the production difficulties on the 787 before it even thinks about launching the -10 model and this will give the A350 a good "leg up" as far as sales campaigns are concerned.

Winning quality, solid orders from reputable airlines like AY, SQ, EI, EK and others can only help the program's credibility; the A350 has had a more difficult and traumatic birth than most large commercial aircraft, due to the early difficulties, but I really hope it is over these and that it can pick up a good number of orders over the coming years.

Indeed. One has to consider that there will be a large gap in Boeing's portfolio - between the 789 and the 747-8I. The 77W will be left behind by the A350-1000, so Boeing doesn't have much in that size. And the current issues with the 787 will not speed up a possible 787-10.

A380 has been far worse. The A350 has been changed and delayed, but at very early planning stages.

Fortunately, Boeing has a decade to address that gap.

Considering the success Airbus looks to have with the A350 - which took five-years to address their own gap - one wonders the...wonder...Boeing could do with twice as much time to work on it...  optimist
