Baltia Attempts U.S.- St. Petersburg Launch Again
10/12/2007

New York-based startup Baltia Air Lines, which has been working to get off the ground since 1991, is seeking authority to launch service between New York Kennedy and St. Petersburg, Russia, next year.

The airline in 1991 was awarded route authority to operate between New York and St. Petersburg, Riga, Kiev, Minsk and Tblisi, but said it could not get the financing it needed to meet financial fitness requirements due to "political unrest in the former Soviet Union."

The carrier initially would operate weekly service between New York and St. Petersburg with a Boeing 747-200. Baltia expects to take delivery of the aircraft in February or March.
