Next US Airline To Moscow?

Fri Oct 12, 2007 4:15 am

As far as I know, Delta is the only US airline currently serving Moscow, with JFK-SVO and ATL-SVO. Have any other US airlines mentioned interest in starting routes to SVO or DME??

Thanks in advance for all responses.

US Airways was rumored to be in negotions with Domodedovo for a 76 on PHL-DME. No news of what happened there.
Continental has long held rights on EWR-DME, and keeps on extending their rights based on lack of equipment. When they get the 787s, they're also a possibility.

Transaero is entering the US market with DME-JFK and MIA. Can't wait to see some more competition in the Russia market.

Does AA still have the rights awarded to TWA in the mid-1990's.

IIRC TWA was given both Moscow & Saint Petersburg but only operated SVO briefly, with a 727-200. ( From FRA or BRU? or possibly another city)

US is looking hard at it. Keep an eye out for Moscow to show up on the map for US in the near future.  Wink

AA has been looking closely at JFK-MOW lately, probably to DME.

DL has the government market sewn up on this route. IIRC, most US govt workers if not all traveling to Moscow use (must use?) this DL route out of JFK and not the Aeroflot service.

Good Memory Nomadic!

JFK-BRU-SVO, Flight 768... Originated in JFK with L1011 equipment, change of plane in BRU to 727-231A. One daily roundtrip BRU-SVO-BRU. Local traffic rights as well as the connecting passengers from Kennedy.

Unfortunately the route was very short lived. It began in March 1992, lasted only for the summer season and was gone by winter.

AA is looking at JFK? I would think they'd look at ORD.

JFK-Moscow could become pretty competitive, between SU, UN, DL, and AA. Of course, the market is big enough for everybody, even if CO and US both added services.

I would agree, but MAH4546 is usually pretty reliable, and he says JFK. We'll see where this goes.

Personally, I think this won't happen in the future - but it'd be great to have a 767 from St. Petersburg to US. I bet business would sell out every night.

Slightly off-topic, but can we see a US airline return on a West-coast to Russian far east routes?

The Wikipedia entry for AA says there will be an announcement about an ORD-DME flight in a few days, on the 15th. Since it's Wikipedia saying it, I'll believe it when I actually see a press release.
