FL Adding IND-MSY?

Sun Oct 14, 2007 1:36 pm

Is this an error or did someone slip up and put the info up on the website before the press release? This wouldn't have been the first time FL has done this. I was checking the route map and they now have IND-MSY listed.

I just saw that, too. Very interesting. I'd have to lean towards it being an error though. Didn't Southwest have service to MSY a while back and drop it?

MSY was a victim of Katrina.

Edit: While there has been a history of the web team making mistakes and posting routes before the press releases is there a history of them posting incorrect routes? I've seen them slip up in the online booking system. I haven't paid that close attention to the routes. I have never seen them post an incorrect route for IND.

2nd Edit: They are also adding a 3rd daily to RSW. It makes me wonder if they are going to add an eastern or northeastern city where a few connection opportunities would be available to places like MSY, RSW and perhaps even the other new destination LAS. If MSY is indeed added it will become the 3rd destination served exclusively by IND and ATL in the FL network.

Well when I was with FL in MSY, the people in the route planning dept. said they would definetely be adding new nonstop routes from MSY eventually due to new airport incentives and the overall success of FL's operations at the airport.

IND would be great to see!

Nice to see IND get more service, and FL expanding to somewhere other than Florida or Vegas!

WN flew that route for about 11 years and did well on it. It used to go MDW-IND-MSY and vice-vera. I took the flight once out of MSY and most of the pax got off in IND.

Great to see it return.

Now I hope that mismatched-blue/orange carrier doesn't do a me-too and try to drive them off the route... as they've just done XJet on MSY-BHM.

That's funny. I was doing the exact same thing last night per the FL expansion in MKE discussion and came across that same thing. Figured I just missed the announcement.

Good catch...and good for both IND and MSY.

It'll probably barely last three months...like FLL-BUF, PBI-MDW, MIA-IND, etc., etc. AirTran is famous for this.

Yeah, MG day is really early this year. 2/5/08. That's the earliest I have ever seen it.

That's right. My memory is slipping. That was quite a 1-2 punch with the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. I was down there somewhere in the Quarter for most of the lunacy.

Well, I hope not. At least FL is giving it a shot.

I honestly don't see much hope for a Saturday only route.

Just at a quick glance at carnival.com I see they sail from New Orleans on Saturday, Monday, Thursday. They don't sail on Sunday. I don't know who else sails out of that port. The flight doesn't arrive in MSY until 12:33pm. The Saturday sailing leaves at 4pm but you are required to be on ship quite a bit in advance of that for the safety drill that must be executed before sailing. So that Saturday flight won't help Carnival passengers.

Hmm, this must've been among the changes Nagin was talking about-- I tend not to pay attention.

Sunday has historically been major cruise day here-- which is why DL and UA often bumped capacity for that one day. Right now, we've lost Royal Caribbean, perhaps indefinitely. Sundays used to see them, Carnival, and Norwegian all docked concurrently. Princess was supposed to come on board as well before the storm.

We receive tons of Euro-charters per year as well.

Starting in December, NCL returns with weekly sailings...not sure if Saturday or Sunday.

NCL does sail on Sundays. As ConcordeBoy stated Royal Caribbean was lost. Do you add a flight like that for 1 cruise? FL tried alternating days from here to PBI and MIA. It failed. NW tried similar Saturday service. It failed as well. With the exception of service to CUN I don't know of any 1 day a week service that has made it here.

That be great, though regardless it was launched as a year-round route. It started about a month later than announced, and ended after about three months of operation. At least MIA-MDW has held on strong and year-round.

Quite interesting...even though FL is adding MSY at IND, it looks like MKE could/will eventually top IND interms of flights if their plans go through to acquire more gates at MKE. I wonder what will happen at IND when the airlines move to the new terminal next year.

FL pretty much uses 4 gates at IND as it is. They share a gate with YX and lease another. They also use two of the common use gates.

I know when i was at IND last weekend flying, C10 did not have any signage whatsoever. THe dark blue background on the gate desk was still there but nothing else. WHen i flew in last sunday, there were air tran planes at gates C2, C4, and then we were at C10. Kind of neat seeing the FL planes there  Smile
