Poutine In Iran Tonight. Some New Order?

Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:14 pm

Russian president Vladimir Poutine should make an official visit in Iran tonight. May we hope some Tupolev, Ilyushin, Sukhoi orders?

When I saw the title of this thread I thought that it would be about an order announcement for Bombardier regional jets, and not Ilyushins, etc. You see..."Poutine" in N. America (primarily Quebec) is a recipe of french fries, gravy and cheese. I thought you had word of a delievery of poutine to Iran!  Smile Alas, you were referring to the Russian president. In english, (my native tongue) we'd spell Vladimir's family name as "Putin"

I had exactly the same thought! I always find the French spelling of the Russian president's name "Poutine" highly amusing for that reason. Actually poutine with its more common meaning in Quebec may qualify as a weapon of mass destruction all by itself.

I know we are in the civil forum but I read in the following link that while president Putin (not Poutin....  cheerful  ) is making it's official visit in Iran, some contracts concerning Iranian Air Force will be signed or confirmed.

If military, why not civilian? There are no Tu-214 orders yet in Iran and a Tu-214 (Tupolev colors) was on display at the last Kish air show.
Let's wait and see but I think that kind of visit is the best chance (maybe after MAKS) to sell aircrafts to that kind of country.

Well, Putin had other worries than selling planes...

I was going to say he has to worry more about strategic issues and the New World Order than about aircraft orders.  Cool
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

That's what I thought of too - that Canada had come up with a scheme to overthrow the government of Iran by hooking its leaders on poutine, thus leading to almost instant death from the cholesterol.  Silly

Putin's trip is focusing mainly on issues around who owns the resources under the Caspian Sea and nuclear development, particularly a power plant Russia is building in southern Iran. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if the topic of aircraft orders came up - according to Wikipedia, Iran Air has shown interest in ordering the Sukhoi Superjet - but it's not a focus of the trip.
