Yeuw... What's going on at *A lately? First AI and now MS. Can't see how AI, let alone MS can make the grade to a *A airline.

I'm seriously thinking of switching to BA and oneworld.

Both airlines cover markets where *A is lacking, namely India and North/Middle Africa and Arabia. Furthermore, both airlines have placed huge orders for fleet renewals and are working on their service standards.

I myself am happy about it, as Stitch said:

Does Egyptair plan on using theri A330-200 to open North America services? It seems like a logical type airplane to make this happen.

TK - Invited Dec '06 - Full member in May '08???
MS - invited Oct '07 - Full member in April '09???

Look for the likes of TAM and TACA to be announced sometime in 2008. TAM might even be announced by December. My go on this, watch all the airlines that sign agreements with Lufthansa.

Also look for Ethiopian, Air Malta, Aegean (*A Regional), and Air One. The latter will also probably be the next big purchase by LH - they seem to be waiting for Alitalia to close shop, Air One to take up its routes and then swallow it up!

Cheers!

About the 332s, on another thread I mentioned 332s to be pushing their limits to do west bound N.American destinations (hot heavy westbound).

Hmmm, not sure about that one. Air One ia already a fully integrated Miles&More member, so any *A FF member can earn miles with them. I don't know what els ewould warrant an integration of Air One, unless as a regional member.

They currently operate :
12 A320
7 A330/200
4 A321
3 A340/200
3 B737/500
3 B738
5 B777/200ER
6 E-170 operating under Egyptair Express
Total:43

On order :
5 A332 + 3 options + 3 to be leased
8 B777/300ER ( to be leased )
9 B738
6 E-170 ( may be upgraded to E-190 )
Total on order:34

There were plans to get rid of the A342 and the B735 , but because the Airline is short in A/C , these plans are shelved for now . But one should expect getting rid of the old A/C once the new planes start rolling in .

Indeed Ramik , the on-time performance of the Airline is now one of the best , check this website out :
Airlines on-time performance
Not only that , customer service has greatly improved , in February they had a new website up and running with online booking engine , newer planes are added to the fleet bringing the average fleet age down while dramatically increasing the fleet size , newer routes were opened in 2007 including KUL,CAN and LIS .
And don't forget , they have one of the best on board meals  yummy

LOL although I don't drink but I do agree with you on that !!! but it is still going to create a certain kind of dilemma within the company.. I think if foreign shares in Egyptair became large enough to make a change , I'm pretty sure that will be one of the main of points of discussion.

As planned , Egyptair and Lufthansa have started code-sharing as of October/28th .

Quote:
Egypt Air and Lufthansa German Airlines successfully launched their first code-share flights, this morning. The code-sharing will be introduced on Egypt Air’s daily services from Cairo to Frankfurt and Munich, and Lufthansa’s double daily services from Cairo to Frankfurt as well as on its three weekly flights from Alexandria to Frankfurt. This will bring the total to 31 code-share flights being operated by Egypt Air and Lufthansa.
Commercial cooperation between both carriers is planned to cover other domestic and international destinations, in the future.
Passengers of EgyptAir and Lufthansa will benefit from the mutually-coordinated timetables with more flight possibilities and convenient connections between Germany and Egypt. Passengers will also be able to take advantage of additional frequent flyer program benefits; they can accrue and redeem miles on all code share flights. As a promotion marking this cooperation, Egypt Air and Lufthansa offer their customers extra mileage from 28th of October till 30th of November.

I have flown many airlines in the past and i know that there are a lot of people that would choose some other airline over MS just because MS don't serve alcahole, and they enjoy drinking while on board.
I would say an international airline should offer what most of the others offers, Drinks are there it's your choice to drink or not.
but i'm sure in Egypt lots of voices will come over and ask for this to stop, FA might refuse to serve alcahol, catering as well. and i can count farther.

As to the issue of serving only non-alcoholic beverages, I believe a change in current policy will indeed steer up discussions within Egypt.

Although i fail to see the relation between good service and serving Alcohol onboard , but MS staff wouldn't mind if you bring your own booze .

I know a lot of FA on MS and i'm sure most of these guys will totally refuse to serve alcohol on board, or even touch it.

Star Alliance seems to be snapping up airlines in Africa at the moment. It appears to be on a massive expansion drive. Good luck to them! Congrats to Egyptair. Let's hope there are some carriers left for One World and Sky Team in Africa!

Egyptair was always a good airline with an excellent reputation. My mother used to fly with them in the 1940s from Cairo to Tel Aviv. They stopped in 1948. They were known as Misrair. In the 1950s they merged with SAIDE (Societe Aerienne Internationale d'Egypte) and started operating to Europe.

I don't know why everybody is screaming about MS not serving alcohol. If it is not their custom to drink/serve alcohol, why should they start now?

Is alcohol so important that you have to have a drink during you flight (which in the scheme of things is short no matter how long it is)?.

Alcohol and flying really don't mix anyway. If you have to have alcohol, why not get it after landing?. Is it really that big of a deal?
Fly the friendly skies of life!. Enjoy every minute.

In before "IT RELIEVES ANXIETY!"

Concur. The airports have enough bars/taverns/resturants that serve it, just so you can have your chocotini before you catch that flight.  eyebrow

No one is screaming FlyMD, we just sharing opinions, most of the people that talked about that don't even drink.

Like i said above i don't drink, but i saw and i met many people that always say the same, oh they don't serve alcohol that's sucks. which raise the flag that yes lots of people don't drink but lots of people do drink and enjoy drink while on board.

IF MS is going to Join the Alliance that means they will be getting PAX from all over the world, so sometimes airlines have to accommodate it's policy to gain that passenger to favor the airline next time he choose to fly, this happens by introducing different products that interests different kinds of people.

But i'm sure that FA won't mind if you had your beer and you drink it on board, after all they can't stop you, there is no law say you can't drink on board.

My experience says the opposite: on every flight I have been the cabin crew clearly states that it is prohibited to drink any alcoholic beverages besides those served by the crew. It's even written in the inflight magazines. I believe this rule is instated in regards to the safety of all passengers onboard, meaning that the cabin crew can keep an eye on the alcohol consumption and when needed refuse to serve any longer. Drinking your own beer means no control by the cabin crew on total alcohol consumption per passenger.

I myself do not drink and find it relieving when the passenger in the seat next to me turns out to do the same.

Yeuw... What's going on at *A lately? First AI and now MS. Can't see how AI, let alone MS can make the grade to a *A airline.

= Actually, I think AI and MS are excellent additions to the fleet. AI's drawback is its unreliable flight operations. However, inflight AI is significantly better than a LOT of the Star carriers. AI and MS get a bad rep without people having sampled their product. I would take AI, MS any day over flying some current Star carriers.

I myself am happy about it, as Stitch said:

= Likewise.

Quoting MadameConcorde (Reply 13):
Maybe we will see the pax on board the MS flights carrying live chickens like I have seen on the underground trains in Cairo.

= Thats awesome. The world we live in is diverse and that would make it interesting  Wink.

Good news for Star Alliance and for me  Smile,

Cheers,
A.

Not yet! There are no flights between ORD and CAI currently. Transfer in JFK or Europe is still needed from ORD. But perhaps in the near future MS or UA will offer direct flights between ORD and CAI. Personally I believe UA will begin flights to CAI from IAD before ORD, but one never knows!

Well, I for one am praying that the mighty Horus touches down somewhere closer to SLC than JFK, and soon! Although, I'd prefer the A330/340's, the route would be either the 772 or a new 773?

After 9/11 , the Airline suspended its LAX route, attributing the move to tightened security procedures at US airports and concerns about the safety of air travel following the events of 11 September as reducing its customer base . The route used to have relatively low load factor but with high yields .
