Haven't heard anything about it, but it is an interesting proposition... one that NZ has been looking at for sometime and will come into effect soon once NZ makes a return to South America.

btw HKG-AKL-EZE 10523 nm
HKG-EZE (if it were possible) 9957 nm

If AR were to do this it would be with A340

Din't AR fly to HKG via AKL briefly in the 1980's with a 742?

AR could probably do HKG via AKL or MAD. Maybe to build up frequencies EZE-AKL to compete with LAN they would go via AKL?

When NZ start service to South America it will be the first time they have been there! And yes it would have connections from Australian and Asian cities.

... you shouldn't believe everything (or, perhaps, anything) you read in Wikipedia, it's been well documented how much of it has been 'amended' by people just making stuff up.Contrarily, it (Wiki) epitomises the best & the worst 'features' of the Internet...

NZ did briefly fly to EZE I think it was about the same time as they flew to BKK etc in the 90s

Can someone confirm that because I certainly don't remember it. I'm not saying they didn't but I don't think they did.

I just remember it being talked about on here several times in the past... back in the days before NZ bought up AN. Could be wrong since so much that is said on here is based on hearsay... NZ is only now back to the size it was Internationally back then... Through the late 90's NZ was gutted by the likes of BIL/Selwyn Cushing etc and of course the fiasco of AN.

1) AR fly EZE-AKL-SYD a few times a week. Unless AR drop AKL-SYD leg and send the A340-200 to HKG instead, I don't see this happening. Unless of course AR decide to start EZE-SYD non-stop with a 744.

Or with the A345... There's a thread running about Air Comet getting the A345, but maybe it's Grupo Marsans that is getting the A345 and putting them on the Aerolineas Argentinas network.

Apparently anyone can change data on there.. So much so that Helen Clark (PM of NZ) has blocked any additions to her name..

The only logical way forward I see for this would be a code share with NZ (Star) or CX (Oneworld). QF (Oneworld) already have a code share agreement in place with them.

Why anyone would want to do this is beyond me, EZE-JNB-HKG is shorter.

Here's routes for EZE-HKG via AKL, JNB, PPT and PER:
http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gc?PATH=e...E=best&RANGE-COLOR=navy&MAP-STYLE=

It's shortest via Perth, but the EZE-PER segment will spend a lot of time over Antarctica, which I'm not sure if is desirable.

Imagine doing that flight in summer then. The spectacular sight from above instead of spending large amounts on a cruise. Mind you it's not much further to PUQ/USH and Cape Horn where you can actually experience it from sea level.. I'd go on it if it was only to see Antarctica.

I dont see that as being commercially viable. It would be cheaper for PER traffic to go via SYD.

Via JNB/CPT in my view would be commercially viable, at the moment the quickest way is via CDG and on the way back from AKL, both with CX connections.

Airlines are hesitant is going beyond 65 deg south due to the distance the leads you from suitable alternates.

I don't see AR flying to Hong Kong via New Zealand or any where else. It doesn't have enough planes to fly where it needs to fly like Miami, JFK, Madrid and FCO. Until AR gets more A340's it should fly daily to as many destinations it can serve daily not 3 times weeklt here and 4 times there, why on earth does AR need to fly to New Zealand and Australia as it currently does. I realize most AR services to Europe and the USA have heavy competition but that is AR's fault not the foreign airlines.

AKL/SYD is profitable for AR.

What on earth does that mean? So it AR's fault that other airlines can fly the same routes as AR does?

QF (Oneworld) already have a code share agreement in place with them.

QF have codeshared with AR before when both airlines used to fly SYD-AKL-EZE but this ended years ago. QF now codeshare on LA's SCL-AKL-SYD.
