Where Does Syrian Arab Airlines Fly Their 747SPs?

Fri Oct 19, 2007 6:44 am

I'm looking at a trip to the Middle East in the winter, and was considering flying on SAA to fly their 747SP. Do they still fly them? If so, where?

Thanks.

Amadeus is showing them flying into LHR on Wednesdays and Delhi Thu and Fri. Not sure about other destinations.

BTW "SAA" usually stands for South African Airlines. Syrian's code is RB

They were regular visitors to Orly , but from some months now , do not fly there.
So as Cyba said , probably they only fly to LHR and India now.
They also flew to MUC , but not sure they still do it.

However their days are counted , as both (YK-AHA and YK-AHB) are reaching their end time life.

Rumors said they will be replaced by A330s or Ill96s , but nothing concrete yet.

I still remember to have seen the first flight landing at Paris...........at that time it was Le Bourget..........old !

They flew to MAN Wed/Thu last year but we haven't seen them here since. Just the boring old A320 now.

Hi all,

Dubai sees Syrian Arab Airlines Boeing 747SP flying three times a week from Damascus.

As mentionned above, LHR and DXB are among the destinations served most regularly by the B747SP.

Syrian Air also fly them sometimes to ORY, AMS, and (very) rarely to FRA and CPH.

Though Airbus were long rumored as a replacement, it is now more likely to see IL96 and other Russian built aircraft to join RB fleet due to the political situation and the embargo against Syria.

In June 2006, Syrianair announced an agreement to purchase two Il-96-400 aircraft and an Il-96-300 aircraft.

The deployment of RB's 74Ls is sporadic to say the least. This summer, they were scheduled to;

Abu Dhabi
Aleppo
Bahrain
Casablanca
Dammam
Delhi
Dubai
Jeddah
Kuwait
London Heathrow
Moscow SVO
Riyadh
Sharjah
Tripoli

At least replacing a 747SP with an il96 still gives us something interesting to see!
