Difference Between Skyteam & Skyteam Associate

Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:07 pm

Hi,

Just like to ask...what is the difference between an airline being a Skyteam member and a Skyteam "Associate"?

Advantage ... Disadvantages ?

Thanks

Hi Yassin, how are you? I see you are quite new to a.net, so (a little late) welcome to the forums.

Several threads dealing with the accession of the 3 associates have discussed the difference between full and associate membership. I believe the conclusion reached in all said discussions is that, basically, the associate members will have limited voting ability with respect to SkyTeam decisions. For purposes of customers (including frequent fliers), I think there is no real difference.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

Hello EddieDude also!

The associate airline is also generally a smaller airline, and it is entered to SkyTeam from the sponsor. The sponsor pretty much is their representative to SkyTeam, and to the customer, it should really be transparent as Eddie mentions.

Skyteam associate airlines also do not have their own frequent flyer program. They use the frequent flyer program of an existing Skyteam airline. For example Copa uses Continental's OnePass program.
I'm not anti-social. I'm just not user friendly.
