Air Tanker 912 Is Back In The Sky

Tue Oct 23, 2007 6:23 am

CNN live coverage of the Southern California fires showed tanker 912 the DC10 departing WJF to fight the fires. How long has the plane been back in service?

Isn't California the only state where this plane is allowed to be put to work fighting fires?

thought the dc10 was approved into service last year....the 747 project was terminated was the way I remembered it. The 10 has been flying fires all summer.

It's "Tanker 910" (for DC-10).

It hasn't been out of service. There was a couple of weeks max while they were working on the damage from the other fire.

California has contracted with the owner for exclusive use, so nobody else *will* be using it. It's not carded for use over Federal land. The one that was so carded, the 747, isn't going to be moving forward until at least next year now. It had a contract with USFS that contained an escape clause when the NATIONAL fire level went down to 3, and the FIre-O-Crats pulled the plug on it before it ever got to be used, based on that national number. Thus, it wasn't used on the California fires last year.

Insane. Asinine. But our government at work.

Bottom line is they don't want to pay for it, even if $5000/hr can save a million in homes. Idiots.
