That will probably mean the replacement of the Fokker 50's in their fleet. To bad!

Cheers!  wave

Wasn't this announced last June? If so, is this the "firming up" of that announcement?

IIRC that was when the RFP was announced but perhaps 9MMAR or Flying-Tiger can clarify for us.

Do you have any further details such as number and model?

It was at least a MoU signed in Paris, IMO it was already a firm order with board approval attached:

ATR disclosed today the decision by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to acquire a fleet of 10 ATR 72-500s plus options for 10 additional aircraft. The contract, valued at US $ 183 million, has been inked in the presence of His Excellence Abdullah Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Romano Prodi, the Italian Prime Minister.

Yes, as Flying-Tiger mentioned. ATR 72-500s are making waves among Malaysia's turbo propeller operators. The future of F50s (MH/Firefly/MASWings) and Dash 8s (Berjaya Air) seem dimmed.
