Alitalia Fleet Question

Thu Oct 25, 2007 2:57 pm

So I am flying to Cairo on Alitalia in February and noticed on my flight itinerary it says the equipment is a '764'. I looked on their homepage and they do not list a 767-400 in their fleet. Do they have an order for new aircraft? Based on what I have read on this board about how bad they are off financially and on the verge of ceasing operations, I would be surprised if they are receiving new aircraft. Anyone know what's up?

After reading all of these stories about them ceasing operations, I am now worried about this trip! I would rather fly someone else, but they are the only airline that had business class flights available using points from Houston to Cairo. Any new news about if they will still be around?

I don't know if they will be around, but what I know is that they use A321 equipment to CAI both from MXP and FCO.

The 764 is listed on a leg from EWR-FCO and back.

I was wondering when this question would come up again?!? Pleaase do a search under "alitalia 764" and your answers will be answered. This topic comes up every other month.

Side note: I would do a link but the search option on this system is less than spectacular. I will have to re-think paying for this service in the future.

May I mention quote Cubsrule's answer dated Jan 20, 2007

It's an internal configuration designation. It's been discussed here before. The basic breakdown is

Quote:
762 is ex AC 767-300ERs
763 are AZ standard
764 is AZ New config

Just learned it myself  cheerful
