First Qatar 77W (PIC), No Longer All-Airbus

Thu Oct 25, 2007 10:58 pm

There she is in all her glory, A7-BAA. I found the pic in http://microvoltradio.com/images/kpae2024.jpg

She is scheduled to be delievered in mid-November with flights to Dubai shortly afterwards. Starting January 1, she will daily to Washington DC. Her sister A7-BAB is scheduled to arrive after the first delievery. QR is no longer an All-Airbus Airline.

CLICK IN THE LINK TO SEE THE PICTURE: ----> http://microvoltradio.com/images/kpae2024.jpg
PIC WAS TAKEN BY Matt Cawby, with thanks.

It's courtesy to credit the pic source too, by the way

Any chance that it will be on static display at the Dubai Airshow? Boeing have yet to release their schedule.

Yeah you are, but with the actual image showing, every time someone loads the page it downloads the pic again and that scoffs loads of bandwidth on the host's site. A pic URL link doesn't do that as the pic only loads when someone clicks the link!

Why is QR changing the DOH-IAD-DOH flight from the A346 to B77W so quickly? What is QR going to do with the freed up A346 frames?

What's the configuration of the 77W? Does it have a first class?
oh boy, here we go!!!

I am going to hazard that they are going to put it on a new longhaul route or on a high yielding route such as LHR. I know on of QR's dailies to LHR is a 346.

I'm sure you'll be impressed, they are great in flight. DOH itself is a little ragged though unless you are in J or F and using the VIP terminal. A small caveat, out of the 3 times that I've been scheduled to fly the 346 LHR-DOH or DOH-LHR it has been subbed twice. According to a source on A.net one of those two was the aircraft going mech, I was not able to find out about the other incident.

I agree that the 77W does look wicked in QR colors. As far as ordering more Boeings go I think they will if/when the are convinced of the effectiveness of the type on the types of stages they put it on.

I will be in J, but i'm not sure if i will be using the VIP terminal or not...! I will be arriving from JFK one hour before my flight. any ideas if i will have enough time to stop by the lounge?

I called QR customer service and they told me not to worry, if i didn't catch this flight there is another one that leaves couple of hours after my sheduled flight. any reasons why they have 2 flights in a very short period?

as of Incidents i think all airlines get some incidents so i'm not too much worry about that.

Sorry I seem to have confused you. The VIP terminal in question is in DOH not LHR. Based on your two posts together you seem to be booked for JFK-LHR-DOH. Terminal 3 at LHR can be quite crammed in the mornings. I would just get on with it and get to the next gate there. At DOH you will be whisked through the VIP terminal.

Well that morning window of flights ex LHR allows QR to get its birds back to DOH in time (flying time and time difference) to connect onwards to destinations further east as well as a surprising amount of traffic headed to Africa.

Doha is an interesting place. My sister works out there for the Qatar Olympic Committee who are bidding to host the 2016 games. The scale and scope of some of the undertakings in Doha are crazy. Not Dubai-crazy but to tell you the truth that is what I like about it. It's ambitious but not overly extravagant. Enjoy your trip!

As YowZa said, you will most definetly be impressed with its services. J-class is one of the most comfortable and spacious in the skies. The A346 is a wonderful aircraft to fly on, PLUS the Premium Terminal makes it feel like your in a small hotel.

I'm going to guess that boeing will give QR the P1 designation as well. Given the overlap between Qatar Airways, Qatar Amiri Flight and the Government of Qatar this would be a reasonable thing to do. I'm not sure about this, it's just my 2 cents.

In other news, QR recieved A7-ADV, an A321 from Hamburg a week ago. Its the first of 6 newly ordered A321's and the first in new color scheme. It will feature 12 Business/First seats and 165 Economy seats. QR now has a total of 3 A321's in its fleet.

Stunning livery and possibly one of the best looking 773ERs out there... of course the 777 is just magnificent in any colors   ...yesterday in AMS 5Y-KQS pulled up to the glass just in front of me, it was clean, nice lighting... what can I say? I was stunned for loooong minutes, couldn't move from the spot... I can never get enough of that plane

Can't wait to see one of these QR birds up in person!

The Quality of abstract shapes in the tail design is echoed by the shapes and lines in the Arabic letters written on the side of the plane. The large area of neutral gray paint makes the red violet color look more intense than it really is.

Overall, great livery design that enhances the classic bold look of the 773. So much better than plain white with a name and a tail decal.

Talk about keeping the plane close to home! It amazes me how much traffic there is between DOH and DXB. The proposed underwater tunnel needs to be built soon. Yes, that will decrease air travel, but would be better for the two cities long term.

Maybe its not so much traffic needs, but also the need for crews to build up hours on the bird. After it goes on DOH-IAD there will be realtively few landings/take-offs. DXB-DOH should allow for multiple runs per day giving crews valuable time on the new aircraft. Also the 77W is a brand new type for Qatar, they have been all airbus up to now, since the 727 & 747s were retired almost two decades ago!

Also, it wont hurt to let the neighbours see the shiny new toy, and what a toy it is! The 777 certainly looks very well, the dark grey suits it, much like the old UA scheme looks good on the 777 too.

Brian.

I heard it's really amazing there, i will be staying there only few days, but i'm planning to get the best out of it.

The proposed underwater tunnel needs to be built soon. Yes, that will decrease air travel, but would be better for the two cities long term.

There will not be any underwater tunnel between the two States! The distance is more than 300 kilometers long!

i saw pictures of the VIP terminal on there website and it looks great, do you know if any other airlines using it?

Its actually branded the Premium Terminal, and reserved exclusively for Qatar Airways. You will use it only on departures. Have a safe trip!

Wow, I love the triple 7 with Qatar's paint. It looks awesome and way better than those buses. I wonder if they will look into some more Boeing's.

A340 is still the best looking plane they have! As for more Boeings, they 80 A350s and 30 787s on order which is enough to see them through.

What do you guys find so "stunning" and "beautiful" about a gray plane that blends in with the clouds?
To me the new font is ugly and the original logo used to have much more style.

I might seem picky with the livery comments but marketing perceptions interest me. I imagine the beauty aspect is exaggerated because the 773 is seen as such a cool plane.

Old school, real style:

The Quality of abstract shapes in the tail design is echoed by the shapes and lines in the Arabic letters written on the side of the plane. The large area of neutral gray paint makes the red violet color look more intense than it really is.

Overall, great livery design that enhances the classic bold look of the 773. So much better than plain white with a name and a tail decal.

. The Abstract shapes of the Arabian Oryx being Burgundy, the national colors and animals of the State of Qatar blended in with the bold giant titles of QATAR makes the plane a piece of art. The grey color is something that is rarely found in passenger jets, but QR manages to use it in a positive way.

I wonder if the 77W will be on Static display in the Dubai Airshow?
