AerLingus First Flight To SFO Arrives 10/29

Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:54 pm

Looks like the 1st Aer Lingus non-stop to Dublin will arrive SFO on 10/29 at 1300hrs to the usual welcoming cermonies which includes the traditional water cannon salute. A 332, four days a week. Starting at the beginning of the slow season?

But the SFO flights from/to DUB are actually pretty full. They have good bookings from now and a few weeks forward.

Isnt the flight departing on the 28th Oct from DUB???

Here's an interesting website with some information about the new route.

http://www.sfo2ireland.com/

Aer Lingus has been looking at SFO for years, they can finally operate the route thanks to open skies and I'm sure it will be a great success for them.

Yes it will be a success for them. Lots of interest in SFO . Also some pax will do into SFO and out of LAX . Very popular.
Nice to see EI in SFO.

Good luck to EI.. yes ...not to mention yet another A330 to the Bay Area.. bigthumbsup

This was a question I brought up on the Irish forum. The first flight should arrive into SFO tomorrow, Oct 28th and then return to Dublin with an arrival on the 29th.

Out of curiosity, does this flight have to make a stop in/continue on to Shannon?

I might go out there tomorrow to see the arrival of it. Then again, I might not.

It's great to see another good Euro carrier in SF. I love their colors too.

I think he meant that a lot of the flights to Ireland either fly to dublin first or shannon first but they continue to the other. So would this flight fly SNN-DUB-SFO-DUB-SNN or is it just DUB-SFO-DUB. There was a law/rule for awhile where airlines had to serve both I can't remember where I heard that though.

Seems right now that the flight to SFO will depart 10minutes later than scheduled, but will arrive 30minutes before schedule in SFO.

Which aircraft is it going to be?? will it be DUO???

I think it is which is great because of the new AVOD and lie flat seats in Premier. I think Enda Corneille and other directors are on board so they would probably get the best aircraft. I'm sure the newer aircraft will be very frequent visitors to SFO and LAX.

In the news today Aer Lingus is supposedly going to drop DXB and make SFO daily by next summer. EI wont announce any new routes until September 2008 at the earliest so an increase in frequency was expected on one of the routes.

EI 147 will arrive at 1330 into A-9 at SFO. There are 267 passengers with 13 crew. Not sure on the REG of the aircraft. Everyone at the Check in counter for EI is wearing a Green carnation. Sadly, this flight was not pre cleared by DUB so all the passengers will need to clear Immigration at SFO.

Good luck to EI at SFO.

I am sorry but does this mean that if you're cleared in DUB, the pax once they arrive SFO can walk out as if it was a AC flight? I thought they would have to clear immigration once they arrived SFO.

If you have Pre Cleared in DUB then when you land you by pass all immigration counters and go to baggage reclaim, clear customs then your in .

It just means they cleared immigration formalities but still need to collect their luggage and proceed through customs.

In Canada, they clear immigration and customs formalities. Therefore, their flights can arrive at the domestic terminals.

Today, EI did not clear in Dublin, so Immigration/customs formalities needed to be cleared at SFO.

Side note. Aer Lingus used EI-DUO into SFO.

Great! It's good to hear they used one of the nicest aircraft in the fleet for the first flight. I'm sure those 267 passengers enjoyed the AVOD and the new seats.

I never understood how EI was able to start the DUB-IAD and DUB-SFO flights before Openskies takes effect the end of March, 2008. Can somebody please explain? Many thanks.

Also, how is the DUB-IAD performing? One a few occassions, since that flight started, I have arrived at IAD on various DL and WN flights. On my way to baggage claim, I have to walk past the gate where the IAD-DUB flight departs from.. I have been there about 45 min or so before the flight is scheduled to depart. It just seems like there are a great many pax in the gate area waiting to board. So it makes me wonder just how the IAD-DUB flight is doing.

Technicially, Open skies does not go into affect until 2008, March I believe. This is why All the American carriers are waiting to start service into LHR.

I believe the reason why EI got a "jump" on its flights is because of a "special " agreement between the US and Ireland allowing for the additional flights.

Access to LHR although wrapped up in open skies has a lot less to do with the final agreement then you think, American carriers are still paying for LHR slots.

The 'Special' agreement is actually hampering EI believe it or not, and in protecting SNN for another winter, you have your facts the wrong way around....

The SNN flights to the U.S. will be in place until, as the article as rumors state, they are moved to their new base in Belfast.

Open Skies comes into affect in March 2008.

The Irish government negotiated a transitional agreement with the US to allow new routes between Ireland and the US in the intervening time. This is outside of open skies.

Flight 147 landed on runway 28R. Winds 260 at 11 knots. Overcast and foggy. Strange there were no photographers taking shots unlike other inaugural flights. Maybe it's because its a Monday and folks are at work. Will have to check http://www.pbase.com/ksfo/root later. Hopefully someone will post photos from the terminal side.

Great to finally see EI at SFO. It has been a long time coming. It can only be good for the whole of Ireland not to mention the beneifts it will bring to those Irish living in the Bay area. Pity there is no SNN-SFO route but there is not room in the aviation industry of today for ridiculous rules such as the Shannon Stopover. Hopefully some day SNN will be able to attract carriers to operate to great destinations such as SFO.

Two good mates of mine were Senior crew on the outbound to SFO yesterday.
They said the atmosphere on board was great craic and the watercannon recieption was all very exciting. Also sounds like the crew are due to take part in a number of high profile events surrounding the start of the route in San Fran over the next few days! Lucky them...sounds like they are being treated like celebrities for a few days!!!!

Apologies, should have phrased that better. Up until last christmas they did not. Last year I think 2 flights did depart from BOS and JFK on Dec 25th. More than that this year. EI always had a policy of no flights on christmas day.

As a lover of san francisco (a sister lived there for 7 years,I visited regularyl during LAX stopovers) i am estatic that EI are flying there. Looking forward to a few trips there. Would have loved to have been on the first trip. Must try to guess who Tonystan's friends are!!!!!!!
