UA 757 IAD-BED-IAD On 10/27

Sun Oct 28, 2007 1:54 am

A United Airlines 757 flew from Dulles to Bedford, Massachusetts (20 miles west of Boston) today, and after an hour flew right back down to Dulles. Flight northbound was 9887 and the flight south was 9981. First thought was a sports charter, but I can't piece it together if that's what it was. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris in NH

Redskins, tomorrow at Gillette? I have no clue really, but that would have made sense to me.

Absolutely. Of course. I'm so conditioned to seeing inbound teams go to Providence. I suppose against the Patriots teams will try anything 'different.'

Thanks!

It all depends what hotel they stay at usually.

Though alot of teams will still fly out of PVD, even if they fly into BOS or BED. Gillette -PVD is under 30 min.
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

It was the Redskins and their flight number is always UA 9887.

The Patriots use PVD as their home airport and so do most teams in town to play the Pats. This is the first time this season that a visiting NFL team has used BED.

I believe the Colts used BOS a few years back as they stayed at the Westin in Waltham while I was there. Very cool seeing Manning and Co.

The only problem with flying into BED and staying in Waltham is that the team bus has to travel the same clogged Route 128/Route 1 path to get to Gillette. At least by flying into PVD and coming up Route 1 from the south, traffic congestion would be a bit less. But in general I would say that BED is no more than ten to fifteen minutes further from Gillette Stadium than PVD is.

Apparently the lodging location dictated this move. The Redskins will return from PVD as per usual NFL outbound flights after Sunday's game. A NW 757 has used BED last year I think for the same logistics, yet brought the team back from Providence.

Yes, that's exactly the plan: United has a 757 coming into PVD from Dulles to take the Redskins back home.

Not much traffic on a Sunday afternoon, and i don't think they use Rt1. i believe VIP's and I guess this includes the team buses, use a back entrance off of I-95. Besides, they have a police escort all the way from the hotel to the stadium, so traffic wouldn't be an issue anyway.

That's not always a sure bet. People forget that PVD is on the other side of Providence and for a city its size, Providence traffic if horrible and can be during the afternoons, weekends and weekdays. The new 195 and 95 interchange is ans has been causing problems for some time now.

BED is the Celtics preferred airport but teams playing the Bruins, Red Sox, or Celtics fly into BOS. Also, the Patriots always leave out of BOS when they have played in the Super Bowl.

The teams almost always fly into the airport that allows them the easist/quickest means to their hotel. It is usually PVD.

There is hardly any traffic going through Providence on the weekends and the construction has only impacted lanes closures during the overnight period. The traffic that exists is the M-F rush-hour traffic that would have been there anyway.

The first phase of the new interchange (95N to 195E) opens next week.

I have had some problems before going from 195 to 95 in recent months visiting some family that lives down in Rehoboth. It sure will be a big upgrade for Providence once the new interchange is completed, the drive times should be chopped down nicely.

Judging from the performance on the field, are you sure it was really the Redskins, or some small college team pretending to be the Redskins?
