Questions About Connecting In EWR

Sun Oct 28, 2007 8:25 pm

Hi,

We'll be flying LGW-EWR-MEX with CO next month. We've never connected in EWR. We'll have 4 hours to connect. Couple of questions:

1) How easy is it to connect?
2) Is there much glass through which to view the movements in that airside area?

We'll then be flying PTY-EWR with CO and EWR-LHR with VS (it's on a through ticket, PTY-EWR-LHR) at the end of Jan. Three questions:

1) If we're connecting between CO and VS at EWR, is it simple to go between terminal B and terminal C?
2) Would we have to go landside then back to airside (like I'm going to have to do when connecting between airlines at LAX on a through ticket) or can it all be done by staying airside?
3) Will we be given our boarding pass in PTY for EWR-LHR?

Thanks for your help.

This may not be much help but....

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):

Take the airtarin that connects the terminals (not hard)

I guess, the train does have windows

Thanks.

I meant views within the actual terminal, i.e. when waiting around.

If both your LGW-EWR and EWR-MEX flights are on CO, you will not need to use the AirTrain since both flights will be in Terminal C. You will probably have to go through Customs (I don't know, since I've never gone from international flight to international flight), but your next flight will be in Terminal C.

When you fly PTY-EWR-LHR, you will have to take the AirTrain from C to B and reclear security at B.

Hope that you arrive in Terminal C - if there is a crowd, C's customs and immigration facilities are superior to B's and CO's baggage recheck facilities are better in C. Plus, you won't have to use the train for the CO-CO connection. The train, however, isn't bad as those things go.

Very easy, EWR Terminal C is one of the better facilities in the NYC area and quite easy to use.

Plenty of time......note that you will be required to clear US immigration, reclaim your bags, walk them through customs, re-check your bags, and then continue thru US security control. Depending upon crowds, this can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes in total.

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):
2) Is there much glass through which to view the movements in that airside area?

Yes, the views are nice from various areas of Terminal C, lots of glass and the runways are within view.........if you have time, you can also take a ride on the Airtran people mover system to see more of the airport.

One stop on the AirTrain....Terminal C to B.

The AirTrain is landside........in other words, when you get to Terminal B, you will be required to clear security once again.

Is you flight on Virgin under the CO code? If it is, you should be able to get a boarding pass, otherwise, I am not sure, You can always check in on line.

Have a good trip.

Dutchjet summed up most of it.

There are plenty of places to view in Terminal C. At the end of the piers, you can see the comings and goings of the airport. One of the best areas is around gates numbered in the 80s. You can see the international terminal operations and the runways. And there is a big food court nearby between 74, 75, 80 and 90.

Continental has a good map of the terminal on their website showing where I am talking about.
http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...ntent/travel/airport/maps/ewr.aspx

And here's a google map hybrid that shows you the buildings in relation to the runways.

CO should be able to check you in and check your bags all the way through in PTY, though since it's an international flight, you'll have to clear customs in the USA at Terminal C in EWR, then go to Terminal B to catch the VS flight. If the bags are checked through, you should be able to use the baggage drop in Terminal C rather than lugging the bags to Terminal B.

Thanks everyone for your help.  Smile

Yeah, the VS flight is a codeshare with CO.

Yeah, the VS flight is a codeshare with CO.

And your flight number is COXXXX of some kind, right?

If that's the case, they will absolutely be able to check you in in PTY. You'll still have to go through the customs and immigration shuffle in EWR, but if your PTY flight is late, CO will have to reaccomodate you on another flight thanks to the single ticket/itinerary thing.

Have a nice trip. EWR Terminal C is a very nice place. New (even the older parts seem new) but still an airport, not a shopping mall that happens to have aircraft gates like SYD or DXB.

Terminal B is a decent place to arrive. You may arrive there from LGW on CO, as some EU flights arrive there when Terminal C is out of room. I've never left from Terminal B, so I don't know what it's like to wait there for a plane. It looks like it's still similar to Terminal A in design (banjo piers), but as amenities go, I don't know what they offer.
