Could Turkish Airlines Fly To GLA Or EDI?

Wed Oct 31, 2007 3:39 pm

Does anyone know if Turkish Airlines have ever considered flying to either Glasgow or Edinburgh? Could it be successful with say a 5 x weekly service with their B737-800?

Are there many Turks in Scotland? Although with TK expanding their IST hub, if they chose to serve Scotland it would be about more than just local demand

Im not sure if the demand exists. Turkey is well covered from Scotland with the usual IT flights to Bodrum, Izmir, Dalaman etc. Think more tourist than ethnic traffic.

I think maybe summer 2009 would be good for TK to start IST-GLA on a twice weekly basis.

I'm not sure the Turkey-UK bilateral allows for additional frequencies at the moment.

But yes, TK could likely make a go of it particularly by offering connectivity for Scottish passengers to destinations beyond in the Middle East and places such as Pakistan & India.

it is like DUB one of the longest 738 flight, but it could work, if the timings are good enough to make smooth connections to the Middle East, India, Pakistan and Asia.

Probably not enough demand for it unfortunately.

I agree with GKirk. Although TK do well at MAN, could do with using 310s because 738s are nearly always full.

Actually next summer a A321 at a minimum will be scheduled for MAN.

Dublin, Ireland went up to 5x weekly. Chances are it will go upto daily soon. TK is very happy with the route.

Although not guaranteed, I know TK is pleased with its LF and yields in UK and Ireland. As far as I know they are studying GLA, EDI and BHX. Increasing frequencies to STN, MAN and trying to get a LHR slot are also looked into.

A fully loaded 321 to MAN at high weight and high temperatures in Summer at IST will be tight for range. That is the price Turkey have had to pay to stand a chance of EU membership, the unsuitable 321!
