CRJ40/CRJ50 Replacements...?

Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:37 am

Hello Everyone...

Just recently, I visited the CVG Farm of CRJ Airplanes, and it got me wondering. With all of the companies, (Bombardier/Embraer) focusing on the 70-110 seat airplanes, and Boeing/Airbus on the larger models, what is going to happen when the CRJ40/CRJ50 and the ERJs need replacing. Eventually these airplanes will be outdated technology, and I doubt we will see these last as long as a DC-9. My question is where are the airlines going to get a new replacement 44 or 50 seater, or in Chautauqua's case, a 37 seater?

Are there plans in the works to develop a new "Regional Jet", or is the future going to be 70-110 seaters for the regional market. What about those airlines who cannot fill a 70 seater in some markets?

What will replace these?

Seems to me that currently the 50-seaters are being replaced by the CR9's & CR7's. It is a basic replacement being that parts and crew training are very similar but the economics are better plus they have updated (engines, window placement, larger windows, larger overhead bins, LED cabin lighting, leading edge slats, along with other things. For right now I would say that CR7's and CR9's will slowly replace most of the CR2 and ERJ(35/45) versions.

Hmm... have any new customers purchased the E145 or even the 135 for that matter?

When was the last time one came out of production?

with fuel at $50 or higher there is little future for a 50 seat RJ much less a 37 seat one....traffic is growing but thanks to the FAA, the ATC systme yes hte future is 70 seats and for DL flies ATL-EVV like 5x per day on 50 10 years it will be4- 5x per day on 70+ seaters......

So, in 10 years, it will be safe to say that the "50 seat regional jet" was just a "fad" that has come and passed? I am not a big fan of the CRJ50, but I do not mind the CRJ70 or CRJ90.

I actually just read that the CF34-10 engine on the CRJ90 and EMB190 are based not on previous CF34-3 engines, but on the CFM56-7 engine core.
