BA/QF ABZ-MEL Via SIN - Booking Help

Thu Nov 01, 2007 1:04 pm

Hi folks,

I need a bit of help / advice from anyone in the know.

I have booked for my family to travel to Melbourne in January, with 5 days in Singapore. At the time of the booking I made the request for us to have a Sky Cot / Bassinet for my young son. This was confirmed by the agent and a few weeks later we received the paper ticket for my son along 'Confirmation' of the seat numbers that we have been allocated (a quick check on the QF website confirmed the bulk head seat with sky cot / bassinet). Excellent.

I recently booked and travel with BA on business. While i was on the BA website i decided to have a root about in the Melbourne booking. It was then that i discover that, according to both BA & QF websites, we have been allocated totally different seats from those mentioned in the confirmation from the agent. Low and behold, they are not seats that will have the sky cot / bassinet access.

Now I have contacted the Agent / BA and QF regarding this. None of the people I have spoken too could offer an explanation as to why the seats on the websites are different to what i was originally told. I was also told that the request for the cot was in my booking.

Am i getting concerned about nothing here? I am a little wary of turning up at ABZ the day we travel to find that we aren't allocated to right seats. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long winded account.

I think BA will only pre allocate your seats about 3 days before departure. It may be worth checking back at that time as only pax with status can pre book any earlier.

Hi Stu,

If the child is an infant (under 2) the 3 day rule doesnt apply and you can reserve at the time of booking or anytime up to departure. The BA systems are normally uptodate and if you are allocated a seat now then its probably the one you are going to get and you should demand they change them for you now if they are still available.

If the child is over two then yes BA wont change your seats and they will allocate you seats three days before departure to ensure as a family you are seated together but the bassinets may have gone to those travelling with infants who can select them at any time or indeed Gold and Silver cadholders or those travelling on fully flexible or corporate deal tickets who also access to the seat map through ba.com. (I think they keep one seat on front of each bassinet blocked off for seat selection from cardholders but not the whole row anymore like they used to)

If the child is over 2 then it sounds like your agent made the special requests in your booking but these, like any other special requests, are not guaranteed. You will have to hope that with three days to go all the infants havent pre-booked them and your special request is noted and actioned).

I hope it works out ok

Thanks people.

APYu, my son will be 7 months old when we travel. The issue now seems to be that although BA (or agent) will handle the check-in etc the flight is operated by Qantas so the BA seating policy does not apply. Qantas office in London tell me that i cannot reserve the seat only request it!?!?  confused

So it would appear that I am screwed.

Thanks again.
