Lufthansa Announce New Route To Frankfurt From Bri

Mon Nov 05, 2007 6:12 pm

From Bristol Airport website

http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/news...ews/article/Lufthansa_Annouce.aspx

New Bristol to Frankfurt service connects South West to Lufthansa's gateway to the world

A new service from Bristol to the German city of Frankfurt will offer a quick and easy connection into Lufthansa's 'Gateway to the World' for both business and leisure travellers in the South West.

Lufthansa German Airlines will introduce the new three times a day service on 30th March 2008 to coincide with the start of the Summer 2008 timetable. The timings of the new flights, offering 94 seats in a two class configuration, have been scheduled to enable passengers to access the quickest onward connections to Lufthansa's worldwide network which currently offers 13,272 flights a week to 188 destinations in 79 countries.

Lufthansa offers a range of highly competitive fares for both business and leisure travellers. One way fares from Bristol to Frankfurt start from just £39, inclusive of all taxes and charges, and highly competitive Business Class fares to all Lufthansa's destinations. For example, a return Business Class ticket to Shanghai will be available from £1,649. Check fares and availability now at www.lufthansa.com.

Frankfurt remains a popular destination, especially for those wishing to visit the numerous trade fairs and exhibitions that take place there every year. The city also boasts an excellent cultural pedigree with first rate museums, high-calibre performance groups, local festivals and beautiful surrounding countryside as well as the traditional German markets, especially popular during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Tony Hallwood, Aviation Development Director at Bristol International Airport, said:

"The introduction of direct daily services between Bristol International and Frankfurt is fantastic news, once again linking the South West with Germany's financial centre and Europe's most prosperous city. Operated by one of Europe's leading international flag carriers, Lufthansa, with its world renowned reputation for reliability and high service standards, this route really delivers for the South West's business community.

"The three-times daily frequency will make day-long business trips to Frankfurt a reality. As well as providing onward connections to Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Far East, Australasia, USA, Canada and South America, this key new service will further reduce the need for road and rail journeys to Heathrow. This connectivity is also great news for the region's inbound tourism industry, as it opens up new markets for German visitors to Bristol, Bath and beyond."

With a flight time of under two hours, the early departure from Bristol at 6.20am will get passengers into Frankfurt at 9.05am local time and with the railway station located directly beneath the airport, Frankfurt city centre can be easily reached in only 10 minutes. Day trip travellers then have a choice of return services at 4.15pm and 9.30pm, giving up to twelve hours in the city to carry out business or take in the sights with the later flight arriving back in Bristol at 10.20pm.

Didn't BA Connect use to operate these route prior to the Flybe takeover?

This route will probably mostly affect KLM and Air France, as they basically had the long-haul market for themselves; only the North American market was in competition with CO. Good for the customer's choice!

Yes. DUS, MUC and ZRH are former BACON routes remaining unserved

the schedule is loaded to the CRS:

FRA-BRS:
LH4960 09:10 - 10:00
LH4962 16:15 - 17:05
LH4964 21:30 - 22:20

BRS-FRA:
LH4965 06:20 - 09:05
LH4961 11:30 - 14:15
LH4963 17:40 - 20:25

all flights operated by Eurowings with Bae 146-300 equipment

two things took my suprise here:
- the evening flight stays overnight at BRS and
- 1.5hrs turnaround time for the morning flight. isn't this too much for a regional a/c?

I'm just curious: why does that surprise you?

Does LH not typically like to overnight aircraft at outstations?

This route was unserved since BA cut it's 2x daily one.In fact BA had very good connections on QF's flight to Australia via FRA. A route they could not offer via LHR.

I am glad to see LH starting this route and getting heavier involved in the UK. Now I hope that we will see Newcastle, Glasgow and Aberdeen sometime from FRA.

Good News - I shall certainly be making use of this route. Bristol - Germany has been very difficult since the FlyBe takeover of BACON.

LH schedules are optimized for the markets they serve, returning the evening flight would not be possible as they would not get a slot for a night landing around 2 am and not useful either as there are no connections that time of the day.

Could be both a matter of slot availability in FRA and of hub bank integration.

At BHX the morning DB CRJ-100 flight stays 1 hour 45 minutes and all cityjet ARJs stay at BHX at least an hour.

Certainly not surprised by the night-stop. AF recently launched their three daily services again with the ATR42 and that night stops, as does KLM with an F100. They are all picking up on morning connection traffic, much of which heads onwards to North, Central and South America at that time of day.

Excellent news from BRS and the region, personally I'm surprised that it's taken them this long! The only problem I can see hindering BRS is the lack of ramp space, overnight there isn't much room - or at peak times during the day.

NCL-DUS just been increased to 2 x Daily, but yes, NCL could do with a FRA link

LH makes a move on BRS - this is very good for Bristol. This is a direct stab at KL, which has had the UK regional market mostly to itself for some time. Of course, the question remains, BRS as opposed to CWL - why can't CWL attract some more of these operators?

CWL pitched itself to numerous airlines, including LH. it seems that BRS is the more attractive market.

One of these mystery routes I will never understand. But there must be a special market, otherwise they wouldn't go twice daily.

This route must be mainly for O&D because DUS is not a hub. And the morning flight from NCL has an arrival in DUS at 12:05, too late for LH's new trans Atlantic flights. So I would like to see LH starting a flight from FRA to NCL to connect them to their long haul network. So far you have to travel to MAN or EDI from NCL when you want to go long haul with LH. Most people would take BA or KLM direct from NCL I guess.

LH are slowly developing some connections at DUS, mainly European, but from next summer EWR, ORD (mainline as opposed to Privitair) and YYZ, plus MIA from winter 08/09. Probably a similar number of connections available as at BRU with SN

Lots of VFR traffic between British soldiers (and their families) based in the Rhineland and in Westphalia, who are visiting their relatives back home.

Indeed, and starting with the May schedule, many DUS flights are being retimed so that YYZ/ORD/JFK/MIA passengers can make easy connections in DUS and avoid FRA.

I don't understand why people should avoid FRA. They increased the Minimum Connection Time from 45min. to 60min., they switched all US-bound flights to concourse A, they put away the second security check for all those US-flights, all Schengen bound flights arrive also in concourse A, all non-Schengen flights arrive in B, but with the tunnel and/or Skyline train it is very easy to get from B to A within 10 min.
So why avoid FRA???  Smile

not quite, non Schengen flights arrive A as well, in that case, one has to take the steps to the upper level. Non Schengen flöights may even arrive at C, my LHR-FRA flight yesterday arrived at C11. Why avoid FRA? No reason, it is quick and easy to navigate, the flight docked at 20h34 and I was in my car 20H50.

Icreasing MCT to 60mins avoids problems for the airline, but usually 45 minutes can be done
