Bmi Going To Dammam, Saudi Arabia

Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:59 pm

bmi will start a 3 times weekly London Heathrow to Dammam, Saudi Arabia service in the first quarter of 2008. The route will be operated with ex-BMED A321 aircraft via a second airport, likely to be somewhere in Turkey or the Levant.

Regards

UA codeshare also announced today, as well as the launch of Cairo. Things seem to be going in the right direction for bmi, with a good niche to the Middle East developing. Hopefully they can manage these services right and make a succes of them

Any wod on a TK codeshare - with TK joining Star this would seem logical and would give bmi access to the IST market

I understand that it will be via Riyadh, on the A330. Good news from BD, as their Saudi flights are higher yielding, but much lower low volume than expected.

BMI chief executive Nigel Turner said: “Over the past two years we have established a highly-successful presence in the Saudi market and are very pleased to extend services to include Dammam, strengthening our position in the region.

I was told today by the powers that be that it will NOT be an A330 route. May be wrong though?

It's been an Arkefly 767 up to now, hasn't it ? Not ideal, I'd have thought, especially on a new route that needs beefing up with the best possible onboard product.

My apologies! Good and bad! The 332 is a great aircraft for the route, but that means I will not be flying to Dammam  Sad

Will the return be nonstop from Dammam?

Riyadh to Dammam is a route that I fly often (4x a month)...is there any chance they can sell seats between the two cities? I'm guessing no...

I would guess no, but KLM do sell DMM-DOH-DMM. Not sure how it works with domestics. I was under the impression that the BD RUH flights were normally full, does this mean they are not performing as well as hoped?

Slightly off-topic, but is "Dammam" the same airport as "Dhahran"? Both places appear to be part of the same conurbation. Back 15+ years ago, I flew Riyadh-Dhahran (DHA) on SV, and the DHA-AMS on KL a few days later. I note now that the airlines seem to serve "Dammam" instead, but given that they're the same "city", almost, I was wondering if it was in fact the same airport, renamed?

DAH has been converted to a military air base, while DMM is located in Dammam which is another city it also caters to Dhahran and Al-Khobar.
