Jacksonville Jags Using DL Now?

Sat Nov 10, 2007 8:04 pm

I thought World Airways was their EXCLUSIVE transporter for away games this year? Could it be an equipment shortage or did the cooperation between the Jags franchise and World go sour? Ideas anyone.

One idea would be that World couldn't get the aircraft there in time (they've been *bangin'* on military flights recently) and used DL for subservice.

I didn't see a press release saying that they were using World again this year. I did see a press release last year and a story the year before saying that they LOVED using the MD11, because it let them bring along suiteholders and other big rollers who got an extra kick out of traveling with the team. Maybe with the higher fuel costs of an MD11 vs a 767 this year, they decided to economize. However, it's hard to believe that World (or its sister North American) could be more expensive than DL for a charter. If they did drop it, perhaps it wasn't worth the extra hassle to World of taking a ship out of military rotation, or maybe they have started to reduce their MD11 fleet by returning to UPS the three ex-DL birds so they can be converted. I just don't know the status of all of that today.

World is not the official carrier of the Jacksonville Jaguars for this season. Delta got the contract this past Summer.

And I know that you should know. Thanks for the update. That explains why there was no press release.
