Pilot Error To Blame For Crash Of Unmanned Drone!

Sat Nov 10, 2007 9:23 pm

A friend in San Francisco sent me this link from CNN, which reports that the NTSB blames pilot error for the crash of an unmanned drone near Nogales, Arizona, in April 2006. They also made 22 safety recommendations regarding the aircraft.

This is the first time the NTSB have investigated the crash of a pilot-less airplane.

Check out the link below.

Is anyone not seeing the problem here?  rotfl

In all seriousness, thankfully nobody was hurt.
Something awful.

Not really. It's clear to me that the pilot was operating it remotely.

There is a certain irony about it, isn't there? Big grin
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

pilot-less

It's not really pilotless. There is a pilot, just not onboard. Pilotless implies automated, which the drones are not.

It is just me or does the thread title sound like a headline and a story you'd see in The Onion?

This does present an interesting precedence. Will the NTSB start investigating other r/c a/c crashes? I could see them investigating the crash of little Timmy Jones' r/c Piper Cub......

Don't think so. In Germany any remotely controlled aircraft with a MTOW over 20Kgs (and those are pretty big, like scale models of a 747 with four turbine engines and 5 meters wingspan, almost like a small GA aircraft) needs to be approved off by the aviation authority. So I think this would be the lower limit.
