Weird Takeoff

Sun Nov 11, 2007 7:43 am

Does anyone know why the plane in this video did such a strange takeoff? My guess is it was a government plane and it is some kind of missile avoidance takeoff or something. anyone know?

Lmao, that is hilarious. Great story that no one will believe if you told them.
According to some of the comments there, it is from the movie Always

That looked like it was done in the North Country, eh. Just goes to show you, not all us rednecks are from the south east US! That may be the new tactic from letting me fish from my parents' dock on Lake Chesdin. I've yet to catch a decent fish though.

I guess you posted the wrong link. Is this the "strange" take off you were referring at ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDz6sEdrcfM

If it is the take off you talk about, there is no Gov. plane and missile story ... The plane shown in the video is a Eurowings A319, a German LCC/Charter airline now operating under the name of "Germanwings".
There was no passengers on board this flight, as this was a demonstration flight, during an Airshow.

Looks like he just lifted off, leveled off to gain airspeed and retract the gear and then did a best rate of climb climbout. Probably was a short field takeoff demonstration. A takeoff like this would be expected at an airshow, especially if there were potential clients for the aircraft observing this.

And I thought a functional check flight of an F-4 Phantom II or F-105 Thunderchief was impressive! Holy Cow!

This video clip comes from the movie "Always" which is about a firebomber group and Stars Richard Dryfuss, John Goodman and Holly Hunter

The corrected video clip is as stated a Eurowings A319 at an Airshow it has lifted off, got into ground effect, due to the close proximity to the ground the aircraft is able to gain speed faster than normal hence the rapid rate of climb but it does bleed off quickly, since true flight speed is not attained prior to lift off.

Ground effect is basically a cushioning action caused by the lift created by the aircraft wings while within half wingspan from the ground.
