IS it a regular AF 344 or AF346 flight?

Or just lucky employees?

Just a demonstration/acquaintance flight not a commercial flight with paying passengers. Done for Air France but it isn't an AF aircraft.

The last I heard ...

Flight number AF002
Expected time of arrival is around 12:45pm.
It's apparently going to do a low and over on runway 24L / 06R, fly over the city and then land on runway 24R / 06L.

It will spend the night at YUL and then is scheduled to depart for MCO at 2:00pm on Tuesday.

It will be back at YUL on Thursday arriving at 10:00am. It will then depart for CDG at 10:00pm.

According to ADP web site :

arrival : 12:20
I could have been on this flight (invited by AF) but was not in the 50 first respondent  crying

I just got back from the airport. Unfortunately, i missed the landing by 25 minutes due to traffic! it was scheduled to arrive at 12 45, but it arrived at 12 20, and i had calculated my arrival there 5 minutes before its scheduled arrival! dammit!

I was there for the main event - the first A380 landing is Montreal...

WOW!!! There were so many people there.... It took me forever to make it to the highway....

Welcome to Montreal A380 - it was nice finally meeting you!

The traffic was insane... I always thought that Montreal spotting community was insignificant, some people who were in lodnon for the 380, said that this was the biggest turnout they've seen.

But I think some demo flights are also scheduled in between.

Seen it from Côte-Vertu overpass.

Crazy! The traffic on the motorway underneath ground to a complete halt, on the way south, when The Beast passed over.

Yes, it was full of people everywhere, cars parked along the motorway...

Very elegant in flight. I still have difficulty with the cockpit shape, but the wings are worth the look.

I had the feeling that the plane was quite quiet indeed, but it is hard to tell: if the traffic had not stopped, we wouldn't have heard anything (a few Dash-8, A32x and CRJ flew around, before The Beast, and we just couldn't hear anything).

It gave me a surprising feeling of lightness! I saw it balance a bit on the approach, where I had not seen the Das-8s move at all.

I initially was told that it was arriving at 12:30, but a friend called me earlier to let me know that it was now arriving at 12:00 instead. I jumped in the car and flew to the Air Canada base. There is a little road that takes you to the airport's fire departement and De-icing station (right before you arrive to the AC buildings) I turned there and parked right away and walked a few meters to the fence. Touchdown happened right in front of me just a few yards away.

I arrived there just in time. Seconds after parking, the entire Bombardier building (just on the other side of the street) cleared as everyone working there came out to watch the plane land. It looked like a rock concert. There were litterally thousands of people in the street... Anyone who timed it on the 12:30 initial arrival time was doomed not to see the airplane land.

The plane had actually arrived in Montreal around 11:30 am and they kept it circling around the airport. We could see it do a few circles all around in the far distance - sometimes coming pretty close for us to be able to tell it was the A380 even without binoculars. They kept it in the air (I was told by another of the spectators) to time it accordingly for all those who wanted to be there for the historic arrival. The plane finally touched down at around 12:15ish.

You're right... Traffic was awful. I have lived in Montreal all my life and could have never imagined there were so many people interested in seeing this plane land here. It usually takes me 2 minutes to drive from my spot to the highway... Today it took 1:30 to do the same distance. I believe the city was also taken off guard - no one expected such a turn out otherwise more cops would have been around to control traffic. Usually these sort of things are well monitored and managed in Montreal.

I did get pretty lucky... 5 minutes later, and those Bombardier employees would have truly gotten in the way...

The atmosphere was incredible and when the touchdown happened a few yards away from the spot we were in, the thousands of people there just exploded into cheers, clapping and screams... WHAT A MOMENT!!!

So happy to have been part of it...

Cheers

An AF spokesman was quoted by The Canadian Press today in Montreal is saying that there are no plans with the first wave of deliveries to serve YUL and that it "might" happen with a second wave. So it definitely won't happen for a couple of years, if ever.

I was fortunate enough to be on Chemin St. Francois to see it land. I got there around 9:30am and there were already a few hundred people there as well as satellite trucks from every news station in the city.

Here are some pics I took today. The first two are to give you an idea of how many people were there.

There were so many people there to see her!

WOW, I am quite surprised to see how many people showed up to see the A380. There is no doubt that the A380 still generates a huge hype among people and probably is the only airplane in history that has received such big attention worldwide (although the B747 probably generated a similar amount if we consider how far back it was launched). Thanks for the pics guys, great shots!
Too bad some so called "aviation enthusiast" here in a.net seem to fail at what the common person does, been amazed by an amazing aircraft! Makes you wonder if such would be the case if it was a B380!

Press release from Radio-Canada:

http://www.radio-canada.ca/regions/M...2007/11/12/001-Airbus380-MTL.shtml

Confirms that YUL no longer is on the radar of AF's A380  Sad

Basically, the same as what Sebring heard:

On the plus side, AF will be flying a 4th service. However, I agree. That's extremely...I guess in a sense rude. AF have been saying from the day they ordered it that YUL would be one of the first destinations. AdM essentially made retrofits to the terminal specifically for that flight. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no other airlines planning on sending the A380 to YUL? BA and, in all probability, LH aren't going to be sending theirs. So yeah, as AirCellist said, Montréal got screwed over by AF. But hey, all's fair in love and business  Wink

I believe you guys need to know that if anybody dictates the aircraft assignments, it would be the traveling clientele of the two cities themsleves. The airlines will respond to the passengers, and evidently, better demand and higher profit from A380 use lies elsewhere for Air France.

Quoting LH423 (Reply 40):

Is it? Markets, forecasts and the business environment rarely remain static and companies can't always live up to their original intentions and therefore must adapt to changing situations.

Quoting LH423 (Reply 40):

Bingo. It appears to my uninformed eyes that the 380 intention, at least in the very early days, seems to be to wring out the ultra-high premium travelers on longer routes rather than using the 380 to replace two airplanes on higher-load, lower-yield city pairs like YUL-CDG. There are many business travelers on that route of course, but not those who may opt for lucrative suites on a relatively short transatlantic journey.

I was there to see it and enjoyed it very much.... nice beast.

The media people are funny though.... they often refer to the plane as the biggest a/c ever built. Heck, it's not even the biggest commercial plane considering the AN-225 can be considered a commercial a/c these days. The only one I can live with is the "biggest pax. a/c" qualifier.

These comments are not made to stir a new debate, but I hate the media giving the wrong information to the public. The funny thing is the AC 773 landing 25 minutes prior to the A380 was a couple of feet longer....

But then again, apart from the media, beautiful beautiful plane,

RE: AF A380 Tomorrow At YUL

Thank you for posting the pictures. They give a precise idea of the scene.

However I am surprised they did not run it under the Air France livery with the bar code. They could have put on stickers like they did for EK and SQ when she came to Singapore for Asian Aerospace. I am curious as to what she will look as an Air France aircraft (in reality not simulated).

Does anybody know who were the Airbus (and AF?) pilots on board for the YUL/MCO flights? Why did they choose MCO?
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Anyone in the know with info on when it will visit AMS? AMS should be one of the first A380 destinations for MH, and it has'nt been testing in AMS at all.

The A380 departed YUL at 1:00pm so she is on the way to MCO.

I was there to see her leave on runway 24R. Very quiet take-off & powerful lift from those huge wings. She began rotating before the runway's halfway point. Impressive beast.
