All eff. 03/08/08. FLL-MHT, DAL-HRL, MCO-OMA/SLC/OKC/TUL, RNO-ONT, SLC-SAN. Anyone surprised by FLL-MHT ?
There is also a chart of additional sat. only service on current flights listed here:

RNO-ONT?
HRL-DAL?!

Wow, very interesting. I wonder if some of these are testing waters?

Probably so on HRL-DAL. I've always wondered why WN didn't fly nonstop DAL-HRL and DAL-CRP, so we'll see if they can make this work.

Ditto. You'd think they could have at least one daily n/s in those markets.

Not really. They used to operate this every winter on Saturdays during the early-00's. MCO-OMA and MCO-OKC aren't new either, IIRC, they just haven't operated in recent years.

Even tho they say the purpose is not "testing the waters", I still can't help but think that if a Sat-only flight does very well in attracting pax, it could very well show up as a daily/multi-frequency flight eventually...

I remember a year or two ago when they still used to announce Sat-only flights in their New Service PRs; of course there were only a handful at a time and I'm sure they were "test" flights for sure back then.

The SAN-SLC (Sat only) route used to be served by WN years ago as well -- and by Morris prior to the takeover. And I do think that this route will become 4-5x daily perhaps next year...

I also predict that the (published) WN Flight Schedule, available at airports everywhere, starting in March, is going to become half-again bigger because of all these additional Saturday schedules, and that they will (again) discontinue printing them due to the increased costs involved.

WN had Saturday-only DAL-HRL service back in the mid-'90s. Why WN decided to start the route in the first place, why the route got discontinued, and why WN is giving it another chance are all quite puzzling to me. Could it then have been, and could it now be, just a seasonal flight; i.e. a cheap and fast way for North Texans to "beat the winter blues" and bask in the sun of South Padre?
I may question your opinion, but I'll never question your right to it.

I put my vote in agreement with this too...always shocked me. I could never believe there was anywhere in Texas not served nonstop from BOTH DAL and HOU, but especially DAL, being home and all.

I'm sure part of it has to do with the Wright Amendment. When Wright was at its most restrictive, the Valley and CRP had service to DFW and IAH on AA and CO (in many cases mainline), with the ability to connect to destinations worldwide. WN simply couldn't offer this. I'm sure that the opening up of new destinations from DAL played a role in this, just as it did in flights such as AMA-DEN.

Southwest service at MHT roughly lags, then mirrors, service at PVD. The appearance of PVD-FLL was a very good sign that MHT-FLL would come along. I think it's a virtual certainty that MHT-FLL goes daily once a plane frees up to do the duty. It's by no means a demand issue because there's no other service to eastern Florida aside from this one flight.

What does surprise me is a 6th MHT-MCO circuit on Saturdays. I was thinking that FIVE daily flights on this route were too many, but evidently Southwest sees data that proves me wrong.

The only thing surprising about FLL-MHT is that it wasn't added as a daily flight years ago.

Well, virtually all of the HRL and CRP flights to HOU continue on to DAL with no change of plane needed. They've probably been doing that for the better part of the last 30 years, and it's basically the sort of milk run strategy that they successfully used for many years to be able to serve smaller markets with good frequencies and 737-sized aircraft. While you can probably justify two or three HRL-DAL non-stops based on O&D and connecting traffic, for example, WN offers 12 weekday one-stop flights between HRL and DAL. By giving up a 25 minute stop in HOU, SAT, or AUS, the passenger gains a huge amount of schedule flexibility without the high seat-mile costs of an ERJ.

OKC-Florida has yet to stick with any airline. We'll see how it goes.

Whats funny is that Comair flew this route daily to MCO from OKC in 2005. It wasn't around long. Sure, I move away from Oklahoma and they start getting awesome airline service. Well, I'm 25 NE of DFW so its not a long drive. Tomorrow morning actually, I'm taking my dad to DFW at 4:30a for a 6:30a flight to DEN.

SW flew DAL-HRL non-stop from 1975-1985, 1999-2001.

MCO-OKC was operated starting in 2003, I don't know when it stopped.

I agree on that comment. But right now I believe every flight out of HRL (either to HOU/SAT/AUS) is a direct flight to DAL... correct me if i'm wrong.
I live for the day mainline returns to BRO...
