A380 Windows

Sat Nov 17, 2007 7:10 pm

Is it me, or the A380 windows are bigger than the rather small standard Airbus windows on A32X/A330/340?
I saw that when I read this excellent trip report: On My Way To Sydney And SQ380 Trip Report - Part 3 (by MadameConcorde Nov 15 2007 in Trip Reports)

Yes, they are slightly bigger.
Normal Airbuses has a window pitch of 21", while the A380 has a window pitch of 25".
However, the frame on the interior side of the window is even larger, which exaggerates the perception of the size even greater.

The windows on the 777, which has the biggest windows among the Boeing jets in service, are 10x15 inches. The windows on the 787 are 10,7x18,4 inches.

Whow so you get 6 inches more on the A380? That is unreal? I would much rather fly on the A380 (forgive my European allegiances) but that is another huge tick box in my 'not really liking flying in a tin can' book.

pitch is spacing from window center to the next window center. A380 windows are not 6" wider.

Window pitch and the size of the window are two completely different things. The pitch is the distance between windows (like seat pitch). The A380 windows definitely aren't 21 inches in any dimension.

Just for perspective here is a pic i took of the upper deck windows! The inside plastic sheet is much much larger than the actual window.

I believe the 777 windows are actually 10.7" x 15.3"

A good example of creating a bigger picture! Quite an upgrade on cabin interior from it's grandaddy DC-9!

I thought the windows were smaller than usual. I also thought that the larger "window" is an optical illusion over the actual window. This is a huge problem at night because all you see is a reflection of youself

This was discussed not too long ago so if you search for it there will be a thread. There was a photo that showed a mock-up that compared the window sizes. The A380's were smaller than the 777 and 747. The 787's will be the largest in the industry but someone has said the A350 will match that. If you bounce back and forth on AC's flights from Airbus to Boeing you can notice the difference in the current fleet.
