Helicopter Joy Ride

Sat Nov 17, 2007 9:23 pm

Wow - incident in Canadian airspace, sounds like a teenager joy-riding in their parents car!

Excerpt from incident entry.

"N***** an American registered Aerospatiale AS350 on a code of 3016 flew through the control zone without clearance enroute to Port Hardy. Helicopter also flew the approach to Runway 12 at Boundary Bay where aircraft on final for Runway 12 were given turns to avoid the traffic. After flying through the Boundary Bay Control Zone without a clearance the helicopter continued into the Vancouver Control Zone without a clearance where VFR aircraft were
given revised routes and or evasive turns to avoid the helicopter. Radex made of event on file Vancouver ACC"

From the incident description, appears they had to move multiple airraft to stay out of the way of the wayward heli.

The report in the first thread didn't really have any details as to who was flying it. For all we know it could have been an experienced pilot. Considering it was an AS350, a pretty advanced helicopter and not one you would see at most helicopter flight schools, I would think it was someone who knew how to fly the thing.

Psyops - any more info as to where it belonged to or who was flying it?

Not much info on the reg. The incien does not have much more info than the above. I should be clear, I don't think it was a joyride, but it just seemed like the pilot was traipsing around and shooting approaches without clearances.

here is the info on the reg involved.
