If this has been covered forgive me; I’m not good with A-Net forum searches. Uncle Sam is making a big deal with their dog and pony show regarding helping the flying public with air travel. So, they’re opening up special express lanes along the East Coast. Fine and dandy but, while our government giveth they taketh at the same time. Since Oct. 1 of this year, the TSA has made the background checks of new airport hires a Broadway production. It used to be, a person could start their airline, airport job while the TSA conducts their background checks but now, new hires have to wait and wait!. We are feeling the adverse affects. New airline, support staff like skycaps and vendors all are getting royally screwed. Because this, we all are shorter staffed and this is causing glitches at the airport. We have to wait longer for our new hires to start and here we are coming into the badass holiday travel season! What’s wrong with this picture? For example, our skycap company literally has their balls tied. New hires are not able to get their badges and therefore can’t assist with the increasing number of handicapped passengers that fly this time of year. Our current sky caps are being worked like coolies and having to wheel two wheelchairs at once. Wait times for disabled passengers are doubled! And of course these passengers are screaming and cussing us all out. I’m linking two articles about this. Some paper pushing drone is giving the spin and excuses that their new system has bugs. Then for Christ’s sake either get it right the first time or, rescind the new requirements until you get your act together. Sadly the traveling public gets the royal shaft along with us the airlines.
