What Is A Legal Intl. To Dom. Connection At MIA?

Tue Nov 20, 2007 11:28 pm

Does anyone know the legal connection time from an international arrival to a domestic departure at Miami International? I was under the impression that an international connection time is 1.5 hours but this does not seem to be enough. By the time you deplane, go through Immigration, pick up your bags at the carousel and go through customs, the domestic departure has already left. I do not even think that they would hold the flight unless there were sufficient runners.

I would give myself at least 2 hours to be safe unless you have issues wih customs and then you may want to connect the next day.

If you are a U.S. citizen, you'll typically be able to clear immigration within 20 minutes, and get your bags within 40-45 minutes. Give 1.5 hours to be safe, because delays do happen. Though MIA now has three INS points, which has been nice.

This is on a thru flight from POP-LAX that connects in MIA. The same plane is used. The connection is scheduled with 1.5 hours of transfer time on the last flight of the day. If 15 minutes of ATC is encountered, it is considered weather related and passengers are rebooked on the next day with no meals or accomodations.

Yeah if you are a US citizen it should be the regular time .....if not, I would suggest no less than 2 hours, of course depending on what time of the day
