Usually the Seattle media is good about it. John J. Nance lives here (you may have read his aviation books) and he comes on KOMO/4 everytime theres a big crash and I know of a pilot who works for NBC (did a lot of work on the Kennedy crash last year- forgot his name) and he usually is pretty good.

Incredible. This is even worse than the "Boeing DC-10" on the AA magazine which another user here told us about.

Thats similar to what I saw at ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) in a report about the Concorde: They showed a starting Tu144.
Of course I wrote them a mail to explain the difference.

The next day they said: The Concorde, now 25 years after its first flight. (N.B.: This was a week ago)

Again a mail with a link to a good Concorde report - no answer from them, but I hope thea do it better next time.

It ranks right up there with the misprint photo caption that was in Flying a couple of years back. That Cessna Comanche got more letters then anybody could remember.

It is always like that.
The newspaper today said that the A320 fuselage is as wide as the 747's fuselage.....WOW, only if it's true.
Some years ago when an Aeroflot A310 crashed, they showed a Tu-154 on the TV and said that the 154 is the 310.
A few weeks ago theres a picuture of an Airbus A300Beluga, and the discription says ' the A3XX shown is the largest aircraft in the world "
The people just wanted something to say and make them up .

There was a report in the Boston Globe back in the mid 70's about an IFE at BOS on a "twin engine DC-8 Super Constellation". Now THAT is an aircraft that I'd like to see!

Sometimes I wonder if the media realises there are people in the world who know better than they do, and that when they make up facts and figures or get things confused, they look like complete morons!

I was watching a report on the Concorde after the Air France crash in Paris, and was stunned to hear the Concorde described as a "hyper sonic" airliner, among other things. I am amazed at how uninformed reporters and so-called "experts" can be!

Thankfully the media here in Australia is much more informed. I haven't heard one mistake about the AF concorde except for the difference in death toll numbers. When the Ansett A320 lost cabin pressure a few days ago, they actually showed an Airbus A320 belonging to Ansett.

Here is so many smart alecks. How did you know that there is no such aircraft like Boeing 320? Of course you know that this is BS, but you are aviation enthusiast!!! Media mostly concentraiting on POLITICS!
When they were showing reports on russian submarine, they showed some pictures of it. Did you know that they showed you different submarine and not exactly like the one on the sea bottom????? I bet any money that you had no idea!
Well, submarine fans can make fun out of you because you are fool and you didnt know that actually they had pictures of older version submarine.
The whole world rely on MEDIA, without them you wouldnt know that Gulf Air A320 crashed in Bahrain.

When the Air France Concorde crashed, a news anchor said that an "Air Concorde" flight crashed.
Of course, it isn't the fault of the news anchors, it's the fault of the editors who put the stories on the teleprompter.

That reminds me of last year when the EgyptAir 767-300 ER went down off JFK. A prominent cable news network showed a picture of a 767-400 (which I recognized as I have the same picture in a book) and referred to it as the type that crashed, even though the type had not even been built yet! (The picture was really an artist's impression.)

It just goes to show how the media could mislead us on everything, not just aviation, if you let them...

Today Swiss newspaper "SonntagsZeitung" wrote that an American Airlines B-737 had to make an emergency landing at Goose Bay on the way from London to New York.
As far as I know AA doesn't have the 737 and the 737 doesn't fly from London to NY.

Qantas737,

I would not sing the praises of the Australia media. The AN A320 that lost cabin pressure was first reported as:

"Ansett A320 plummets 20,000 feet in frightening midair incident".

Finally it was reported as "Ansett A320 loses cabin pressure and makes routine, controlled rapid decent to 18,000 feet".

The other funny one was when Ansett sold their last two B727-200's. It was reported that they were being flown to the USA for conversion to "firefighting aircraft". They meant "freighters" I believe.

B727-200.

Heard Something About A Fedex MD-80!

Mon Aug 28, 2000 12:26 pm

On the news here in orlando, they were talking about a fedex plane that had some problem and made an emergency landing. As they show the DC-10, the lady called it an MD-80. It frustrates me when the do that!
