MNL-MSP Nonstop On NWA Map?

Thu Nov 22, 2007 6:51 am

Was just looking at the map. Put in NGO-MSP. It showed me NGO-DTW-MSP, NGO-NRT-MSP, and strangely NGO-MNL-MSP with a straight line from MNL to MSP.

What the heck is that?

NW's map system

NW must have a secret fleet of super 744s or 772LRs. Conspiracy?

It is a direct route I believe from MNL with a stop in NRT.

The default settings on the map are to show direct and non-stop routes. To show only non-stop routes you have to click on 'Select Map Settings...' > 'General Settings' > 'Only Show Non-Stop Flights'.

Aha! I see. But sure is fun to see MNL-MSP as a straight flight.

Could have gotten a good rile out of AF777300ERatMSP

The map don't show the FLT's with the same FLT number stopping, but other then that all the routs are right.

FLT20 MNL-MSP (NRT stop) same FLT Number
also FLT33 BOM-SEA (AMS stop) same FLT Number

We could all hope that this will be reality once the 787s arrive hehehe. Anyone know anything about the chances of this happening?
Sure there are enough pax to fill the n/s from DTW/MSP, but would it really be profitable? Do they want all their asian routes to go through Japan?

Even though the 787 is billed to be able to do something like MSP-MNL, more likely this route would do better both efficiency and yield with say SEA-MNL.

As for everything going through NRT. One of the things they stated in their application for DTW-China routes was that they treat NRT as their western hub. NW has SEA but it is not a full fledged hub I don't think. (certainly could be and be a good one) Most likely NW will fly as many flights to NRT as possible and then add some non-stops. For example

LAX-HKG is 1 stop at NRT (NW hub)
While a new DTW or MSP-HKG would be a 787 non-stop. This would give East coast and midwest passengers 1 stop at DTW (NW hub)
SEA-ICN is 1 stop at NRT (NW hub)
While a new DTW or MSP-ICN would be a 787 non-stop.

I think this is the pattern they will start first. That being said, if NW were to start a non-stop to MNL, it would be from the West coast with a 1 stop from the east coast. And if a non-stop were added, that would possibly mean DTW-NGO-MNL would get downgraded to a 787 but MSP-NRT-MNL would remain a 747.

I wonder if NW is using all their NRT slots. The NRT-NGO-SPN flight though very nice to have and helps connect us to the full NW Asian Network, seems almost like a slot holder.

I know that NGO has been in talks with NW for more service. There has been many rumors about SEA service due to the aviation and tech trade. NGO has done better than expected for NW and could lead to a mini-hub build up.

NW can fly to any part of Japan but doesn't right now due to aircraft. The 787 could re-open FUK and allow for new service from NGO and KIX.
