This is good news. They will also serve DXB shortly.

They've put a stylized version of the Saudi flag on the tail, which says that there is no God but God and Mohammed is his messenger.

I fly to/from/within the Kingdom quite frequently and usually stick with SV - I think they're a fairly good airline and my domestic flights are typically in first, so I have no reason to bother with Sama. But so far haven't heard many good things about them.

I would have definitely preferred not to enter into this argument but if I may point out:

It doesn't matter whether it is an honor to everyone or not. It is Saudi airliner and it is an honor to them. They aren't implying that you should have it written on your countries aircrafts they are just happy to find it on theirs.

With regards to in what way: If you find their emblem offensive (even on their country's carriers) then no need even to explain in what way but then I suppose that you find the cross on Air Malta livery and Swiss' offensive also, unless you have double standards.

Well if FR can put "cable & wireless" and "bye bye baby" on their aircraft, I dont see why not. If EI can put the Shamrock and BA the Union Jack, why cant Sama put their national flag/symbols on the tail of their aircraft.
This special scheme has not been painted to appeal to everyone, but as with all good advertising it is aimed specifically at the Saudi people.
It's not like sama are amking a radicalist statement here. This is the national flag of their country. No one complains about the full Union Jack on the tail of the bmi 332 do they, if they did we would say they were crazy/mad, etc? What right have we to do likewise?

To solve all of the worlds problems we should paint all a/c white, with no distinguishing marks whatsoever. Yeup, thats what we'll do. It will work so well, and while we are at it lets dress everyone the same, and speak the smae language and make the world a big grey westernised 'paradise' Sounds fun!

Were all different, from different places, doing different things, going different places, believeing different things. Lets just get on with it shall we, and stop trying to get one over on each other?

Brian.
Next flights: MAN-ORK-LHR(EI)-MAN(BD); MAN-LHR(BD)-ORK (EI); DUB-ZRH-LAX (LX) LAX-YYZ (AC) YYZ-YHZ-LHR(AC)-DUB(BD)

I'm Muslim and I know where I'm coming from thats why I did that post that you responded to, so dont tell me whats offensive or not, but nice to see some non-Muslims defending an Islamic country, and Muslim religious scripts/texts.

Quoting CF105Arrow (Reply 12):
If you find their emblem offensive

Simply put its the Saudi flag, it could have been stars and stripes, there is nothing honourable or dishonourable about displaying a flag on an aircraft.

The script despite it holiness is not so sacred or forbidden to use by ordinary people or businesses that you have to seek special permission from some holy school to apply it or use it anywhere, this is the only case that would make it an honourable gesture for the airline to sport it, and besides that no airline of any Muslim country applies any religious scripts to their aircraft if it was an honourable this to do everyone would be doing so because they are not forbidden or restricted from this.

I do feel that this is very secular and a bit disrespectful to the script but then even the Saudi's have to show a soft image to the world, then again many Saudi sports fans wave this very flag at events in a manner that borders on sacrilege.

If this si such an honour where and how honourably is this paint going to be stripped and disposed off when the aircaft needs to go to the original corporate scheme? you are not supposed to discard it just anyway or anywhere, I wonder what Saudia do with their flag when repainting.

Muslims are a confused lot these days.

I have no idea but I guess they could burn the scraping remains (not very ecological) or kind of shred it (same as they do to papers with religious wordings on it)  scratchchin

In Islam you are not allowed to shred or burn religious texts, and that paint on the aircraft has turned sacred for having been used to write the holy script.

By the way Saudi flag is desecrated almost daily when its printed in newspapers etc. and those are discarded in waste or used elsewhere, I think they need to get a new flag.
