Iberia leased to them some of their former (received 6-7 years ago) B757-200.

..but fares from Sofia to RAK are about 390 Euros -not what I would call a super bargain..
Nevertheless-having a first diect flight from Sofia to RAK is great news and opens potentially the way for low-fare travel from Europe to the Gulf with one-stop..

According to ATDB, they have just one ex-IB 757 - A6-RKA c/n 29311 (ex EC-HIU)

RAK was supposed to start nearly a year ago. Before I left the UAE in May, I had seen this 757 at RKT in full RAK colours (and very nice it was too). Since then, it seems to have been flying for AtlasJet in a hybrid c/s:

I hope they are able to be successful, they seem to have had a somewhat troubled "birth". Interestingly, ATDB says they are planning to operate an A318CJ Elite!

I notice they have a new logo, previous one which was the airlines name in stylised Arabic has been dropped, and no Arabic titles either!!! I think this makes them the first Middle East carrier to begin operations without native language titles.

Why Sofia. Sems an oddball route for a carrier with no onward connecting flights

They have to start somewhere!  smile

In their position, I'd look to go somewhere where EK and EY don't have a strong presence.
