Did Braniff Have The First "Retro Jet" C/s?

Sun Nov 25, 2007 5:26 am

In looking at the several 747s that Braniff operated following deregulation it appears that the original 747 (601BN) was never updated to either the '71 nor the '78 color scheme, not to mention the special 747 livery of orange with block type lettering that the rest of the 747s carried. Therefore is it possible that BN was the first airline to adopt a "Reto Jet" color scheme? Any thoughts?

Uh, 'retro' implies a step backward to the past.
As these aircraft were never painted in any other scheme, they can't very well have REVERTED to a previous scheme.

So, not to burst your bubble or anything (except, wait a minute, that's exactly what I'm doing), but NO.
The answer is NO.

Take a look at this link. Scroll to the bottom, and the summary will tell you all the colors BN had on their aircraft. There will be no photos, but just a general description of which aircraft wore what color, including the DC-8 & 727 that Alexander Caulder made over. Regards.
