TAP Receives First A330 And Confirms A350XWB Order

Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:30 am

Tap Portugal will today receive its first factory new A330-200, powered by GE, and according to a Portuguese newspaper, Tap will also convert its A350 order into the A350XWB. The article only mentions 10 frames, but from what I'm aware the confirmation will be increased to 12 frames

Despite the long wait, I think that its an excellent occasion to announce Taps commitment to the A350 program.

Fantastic. The A350 is a superhit.
I believe that the A350 can top the B787 before it enters service, but it still has a long way to go.

Tap will receive 5 ''new'' A332's from Airbus. They also have two option, although since Tap managed to acquire 7 secondhand A332's, I have some doubt if they will be firming them up.

How many A330s will TAP now have? I wonder if they could open another route to Brazil, or South America. I've heard loads of good things about TAP from passengers!

Hi!

Quoting Karan69 (Reply 2):

They will have 4 more to come, these 5 A330-200's are to replace in a one-by-one basis the A310-300's that TP had. I think the numbers of the A350 are not correct...if the A350 is going to be the sole model for long-haul routes, and if at this moment have 7 + 5 A330-200's + 4 A340-300's at least they should have the same number!!! But I've seen some confusion on TP A350 numbers since the beginning!!!

I cant see any mad rush to get orders for the A350 as it is still six years away from EIS.

Make that up to 15 with 3 options / purchase rights

Well... according to this we have another A380 customer  Wink What a typo can do... (the header is correct, though)

Quote:
Airbus said on Monday Portugal's TAP [TAPA.UL] was ordering up to 15 A350XWB and eight additional A380 aircraft.

The airline placed a firm order for 12 A350WB with options for three more, converting an earlier order for A350 planes into the extra-wide body variant.

Airbus, a unit of EADS (EAD.PA: Quote, Profile , Research), now has 288 orders for the new A350XWB.

http://investing.reuters.co.uk/news/...PAC008963_RTRIDST_0_AIRBUS-TAP.XML

That only leaves Bangkok Airways, Eurofly and Air Europa to reconfirm their A350 orders.

Now reported on EADS website:

The A350s are firm, while the A320s are a LOI.

Hi!

Well I think since TP is getting brand new A330-200's they will get brand new seats too. I've seen some pictures from the interiors of the new A330-200, CS-TOL, and they look very nice indeed. What I seriously think is that maybe in the future TP will upgrade the seats of their used A330-200's and maybe the A340's too.

So are the seats different / better than the A340 seats? How so? Are they still angled lie-flat seats?

Hey ManchesterMAN, the plane is just flying to LIS!!! Unless you have someone in Airbus that can help you, you need us here in Portugal to know how this A330-200's is coming with! Wait a few days and someone here will certainly help you!

From what I'm aware Tap will have the following Business Class Seats, on their new A330-200's. These seats will most likely be introduced in the future across its A330-200 and A340-300 fleet.

Because their A310s have GE engines and the rest of their Airbus fleet (except for the ex SR A330s they got delivered about a year ago) has CFMs, thus maintaining some engine commonality.

Yes, that's why a lot of Biz class seats are sold in TP, because of the wine list....there's no way other airlines in the world can compete with TP on that, CX, TG, etc. etc.

Hi!

The TP A330-200's with the new Recaro seats ( both TOP Business and Economy ) are; CS-TOE, TOF, TOG ( all ex: Swissair and Blue Wings ) and the brand new CS-TOL that arrived yesterday night to LIS.
The other 4, CS-TOH, TOI, TOJ and TOK ( ex: Austrian ) are still with Austrian configuration and they will be changed during 2008, then all TP A330-200 fleet will have the same type of seating.
By the way, the new A330-200 CS-TOL is named "João Gonçalves Zarco", the portuguese that discovered Madeira Island in 1418.

On another note, I find it strange that neither Airbus or Tap have announced engine selection for the A350. Maybe Tap is holding back, for the hope that GE will jump onboard.

Of course, nor have TAM or Aer Lingus or a few other customers with MOUs. I strongly suspect that they are biding their time. Why sign for RR now if you can wait till 2010 or later to see what General Evil will come up with?

Are you sure? I remember corresponding with you (if I'm not mistaken) about whether or not TAP would choose PW to maintain commonality with the leased planes. I'm pretty certain that TAP chose GE after and in spite of sourcing their small fleet of used PW-powered A330s.

Since Tap disposed of their Tristar's, Rolls Royce disappeared from Tap's fleet, and have only recently made a return via Portugalia's fleet of Fokker 100's.  Wink

Wasn't it TAM that recently decided to go back to PW for their future A330's?

Quoting WINGS (Reply 40):
Wasn't it TAM that recently decided to go back to PW for their future A330's?

It certainly was. PW then GE then back to PW.

Quoting WINGS (Reply 40):
We just did not know it at that time.

Rats!  Sad

Hi!

Just to give you an update on the brand new A330-200 that TAP received CS-TOL. The IFE system is from Panasonic, and it's called eX2, TAP is the 3rd. airline in Europe to have this type. It has 20 video channels, 10 games and also the Gate Connect - Actual time versus Gate number for connection flights. The screen is "touchscreen" type.

Only 20 video channels ? That is surprising low.

This is a plus. )

Well people this is what we should expect.  Smile

I would imagine that games are rather limited as it is touch screen?
