Does Thai Still Fly The 747-300?

Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:31 pm

In my Star Alliance timetable I came across flights by Thai operated by "744" and others by "747". Since there is that differentiation and since I know that Thai until recently still used 747-300s, I was wondering whether they still have some in use. The reason I am asking is because the fleet lookup page that I am using shows all pre-400 747s having left the fleet.

Thanks

Nope, they no longer do. JAL and Qantas still do. I don't think any airline in Star still flies Classic 747's, so if you see 744 and 747 on your Star timetable it probably depends on how each airline writes its aircraft equipment on schedules. Even though you may have seen TG flights with 747 and 744 equipments, there maybe a code share flight with another Star Alliance carrier using the TG code operating 747's as well.

Both Thai 743s were sold two months ago to a company called Unical Aviation. I wonder where they will end up because these late-built 743s are different to other 743s by having the GE engines of the 744 already. Surely they are too young to be retired permanently.
