Seat Covers

Mon Nov 26, 2007 7:26 pm

What about the seats you are sitting on. If they are not leather, they are made of material. So how often are these washed or changed??? I have seen some really soiled looking seat covers!!!

Made of material? News to me.  eyebrow

It probably depends on a number of factors. Care to give us any examples?

P.S. For a minute there I thought this was another one of 1337Delta764's threads. I was humbled to see I was mistaken.

Fabric seat covers generally get dry cleaned every C check unless they are thread bare or really soiled then they would be replaced as they are written up. They are only allowed to be dry cleaned about 10-12 times before the flame retardant degrades and then they must be replaced.

Does leather seat covers shrink a little every time they are cleaned with a damp cloth (if that ever happens, that is)?

One would generally use the same process as any tanned leather products to clean/refurbish them. Leather seat covers generally need refurbishment about every 6 years or so. Leather is much more expensive upfront but lasts and wears much better than fabric over the long run.

Well I do those at work all the time. Usually during heavy maintenance we take them all off and send them for dry cleaning, and then in the mean time what we do is just as we go along every night folding seatbelts getting garbage washing table trays and all that good stuff, we take a quick glance at the seat covers and if we see any that look dirty/stained/etc we pull them off, throw them in the dirty bag, and slide on a clean one. Usually we'll do 2-5 planes in a day, and get one or two seat covers changed in a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
